This is great! Wonder if it should have a place in the Wiki?

That's a good idea but it would be up to Yan. See this is a list compiled by someone else and to just take it and put it in the wiki would be like stealing someone else's work, I think.

Hi, my name is Dave and I started (and because I was amazed at how fast the daily deal concept has taken off and how many clone sites are popping up every week. I'm going to be updating the list soon and my goal is to get over 200 daily deal sites like Groupon and LivingSocial listed. If anyone knows of a site that I don't have listed yet, please submit it on the form on my site so I can get it added next update. I also welcome all feedback on the site (such as a lady who helped me find a data issue when she reminded me that Phoenix was not in Texas hehe).

As far as putting it in the wiki, I'm fine with that as long as the list appears exactly as it does on my site, including the links. It's true that some of them are referral links, but I've spent hundreds of hours getting those sites up (plus hosting costs) and that's my only way to recover something for the time I've spent. (I think I'm only getting about $1 referral credit for each hour I'm putting into the site at this point, so trust me it isn't a windfall! hehe)

midget - thanks for sharing my site! I hope folks enjoy it! Big Grin

Hi Dave! Welcome to Buxr. Never imagined that this topic would bring you here.

Wow, I had no idea there are close to 200 sites like Groupon (maybe more?)

Are these sites just a fad and people are cashing in on the concept while the time is right or do you think the major sites like Groupon are here to stay and the others will fizzle away after time or be forced out by larger sites that can offer better deals?

As far as putting your links in the wiki might be a problem. Here on Buxr no referral links are allowed.
Yan, who is our Buxr guru, can explain it better to you if you need. Maybe just leaving the link here in discussion as opposed to putting it in the wiki might be better so as not to violate this policy.

Yan has the final word on this.

One more thing, I brought up your site localdealsites, you also mention groupdealsites. What is the difference between the two of them? (I haven't looked)

Hi midget - I don't think it's a fad but I do think there will be some consolidation of some of the smaller players. One of the great things about the concept is that there is no real inventory, and there are companies that sell the software or the platform for almost anyone to start a Groupon clone. Since Groupon takes around 50% of the value of the deal, it doesn't take too much volume for a small local company to make a profit with a Groupon clone site... and they would already be local to their area and know potential businesses to target. In addition, they could charge a smaller percentage. Also, not all businesses can handle the hundreds or thousands of customers that Groupon would provide and may be perfectly happy getting 30 or 50 sales on a small local site just to reduce the risk.

I think it will settle with a handful of larger players and plenty of small players that will never be a threat to the Groupons of the world, but will still do fine in their niche markets. As a deal driven consumer myself, I love it and am glad to see plenty - the more sites, the more deals for me!

As for my site, as DebsFreebies mentions, it's an daily deal aggregator site. It's a barebones site without bells and whistles, but was a fun project and I hope to get back to it soon to add more sites.
