Let's be Friends: Retaliatory Voting at Buxr

submitted on May 4, 2012 by YanBz in "Buxr Website / Contests"
Do you think your deals or comments are getting undeserved negative votes? Retaliation is a very unproductive way to deal with the problem as in most cases it simply provokes the other member to return the negative vote which in turn often leads to a "vote war" damaging both members and our community overall. Instead please speak out in this discussion thread and let the problem be solved in a friendly discussion.

I agree with you, this is a retaliatory vote. However, some members attitude is provoking others to retaliate. when some say there is a better deal they have to show a proof that similar deal exists with more discount. People should not compare different deals (don't compare deals between higher amount and smaller amount). We all live in a pracital world where everyone will have different requirements.

I agree with laaya. I think my deal is better than other deal. that's why I negative vote on other deal. My vote is not retaliatory vote. also can you tell me which one is better? Yan.

Can you show proof for your better deal. Your deal will give $20 off for $50 or more. So if you buy $100 or $120 or $150, you will get only $20 off. Apply my coupon for all those amounts and see the difference. Both deals are different for different amounts. Can I say you voted negative to retaliate others? Do you want me to show proof?

You tell me? I spend $50 I save more than 40%. You spend $100 only save 20%. that's why I said other deal is better in BUXR.

How can you say your deal is better? For some amount your deal is better and for some amount my deal is better. Your deal is better only if purchase amount is between $50 and $99, in remaining all cases my deal is better. Factually my deal is netter in more cases than yours. My deal is good for people who want to spend less than $50 and also for people who want to spend more than $100.

For example: Look at dress section. There are total 47 items and your deal will not work for 46 items and is applicable to only to 1 item. My coupon is applicable to 46 items.

I am not comparing your deal and my deal because they both for different amounts.

Both deals offer value for different reasons! I hope that the war can be worked out. I think you both need to back down and see it from each other's perspective. I don't think Yan intended or wanted to referee. I would suspect he expects us all to act like adults.

Psplove....if you felt that deal was bad compare to yours, You should have left a comment . Giving vote down on the deal was little higher.
If that deal was giving $10 off $50 then it was sure bad but comparing ith % off deal...nah
If some guest or some fresher gives then it was ok, but we are here working together for so many months, still you didn't felt a little bit of friendship feeling for us.
You give negative vote on comment its fine for you, but in response if you get negative you cannot take and give back 3-4 negatives WHY?
When you cannot take it don't give.
If we have jealousy feeling for others...we will find faults in each other activities.
Instead appreciate others works, and get appreciation.
    Live and let live.
    God bless you all.
Lastly psplove or anyone else want to give negative on this go ahead.

I agree with the honesty, chivalry, fairness, justice and equality for all but you need to let them work it out. When I first started with Buxr I had people who weren't happy and gave me negatives but guess what I didn't let it bother me.

Clover, same here I too believe life is not to cry on petty things.....here in Buxr we are getting annoyed on people who we don't know.
I used to get this feeling earlier...and truly speaking I literally cried on my negatives few months back...but not any more....I love to post deals on Buxr I really do, I will try to keep that on.

Ok psplove...no further on this, it's upto you whatever you think.

I agree.....the posts are not like they used to be. Quit giving a plus to someone who posts the store locator and vise versa. Vote on the merit of the deal! Research the deals! Don't just give it a plus to move it up! We are losing members because what is happening here and I would like to see it stopped. I really like Buxr but things have changed in the past months. Let's just get along.

I'd like to say a few things. When I joined Buxr it was friendly and the posters were welcoming. I will freely admit I've voted negative on some comments lately. I will also say I did so because of what I perceive to be a clique mentality between a few posters. It appears as though they vote on each others deals on all of them and vote up each others comments, to an extent that is not healthy in such a small group of participants who are competing for prizes. I view it and viewed it as unsportsman like behavior. That is just my opinion, yours may differ.

Yesterday when I saw two posters vote down each others deals because of the competitiveness I viewed that as over the top. I know feelings have been hurt and people have reacted badly to some of the things on Buxr lately.

Now I prefaced this by saying Buxr was friendly when I started here. It was still competive but their was mutual respect for deals that offered value. I would like to see the mutual respect even without friendliness. My reason is simple, I rely on Buxr for savings and I enjoyed this community. I would like to see others have the same benefits, if the in fighting continues that won't happen because Buxr can't grow under that atmosphere. In that respect, I will no longer vote negatively at all. I will abstain but I won't perpetuate the bad feelings.

Let's not downplay the sporting spirit of Buxr just because of some petty fights over trivial issues between some members lately which is causing this Pandemonium. We are all here to post good deals and give respect to each others deals. I have also seen some unneeded posts and comments by some members which are trying to push some deals ahead of others. Please refrain from doing so and neg a deal only if it is really worth nothing and may be classified as junk or cause loss of information to other members. Buxr is a fun place to be and let it thrive in the same friendly spirit which it has known to be since last 4 years.

Why not just get rid of the negative vote feature? If someone doesn't like the deal...it just doesn't get voted on. No body gets their feelings hurt.

I see a lot of deals I feel are bad(either not available in my area, or just a deal for something that is junk, or the same 20% off coupon for kohls, bed bath beyond, etc. that gets posted EVERY SINGLE WEEK!)that I don't vote down...I just don't vote them up.

I agree. I've never negative voted anyone and I sometimes take offense when I've been negative voted in the past. If a deal is bad, doesn't apply to you, or you think there's something better out there; just don't vote it up. And I think doing away with negative voting altogether makes the most sense.

There have been problems like this before and Buxr and every time it seems we pull through as a community. Sometimes we lose a few people which is sad, but I think we should all just ride this out and try to forget about it.

I don't think negative voting should go away. There are times when it really makes sense. I've seen it used well many times in the past. For instance you see a deal for a $20 toaster and you know someone else has it for cheaper. At that point you give a negative vote and post of link where it can be found cheaper. Makes sense right? I'm sure there are other ways negative voting works on deals but that was the first and best reason I could think of.

Now I don't agree when people vote negative just because they don't like that particular deal or because they feel it has no value. Maybe it doesn't to you but it could to someone else. If you were going out to buy something and could save even just a dollar, wouldn't you do it? I think everyone in this community would. No matter how little the discount, it is still money saved. Also with the just downright not liking the deal, why not just leave a comment explaining why it is so bad? I know I've seen deals here on Buxr for items I own that are junk and warn other people. It may still be a good deal for someone else but at least they know some problems that could happen in advance.

I honestly think that if everyone just thinks a little more before they react that a lot of problems could be solved. Being angry about someone voting down on something and hunting them down to do it back doesn't help anything and is rather childish. I say just remember to ask yourself how would you feel if you were in the other person's shoes and react from there. If you don't want negged, then don't do it to others unless you have a good reason.

Keep the deals coming guys! I would hate to see something like this take away great deal posters like yourselves!

I think this topic needs a bump, for the benefit of the older members who have fogotten, and newer members who didn't know. Take a look at the bigger picture and see how counter-productive retaliatory voting can be. We have this discussion forum where everyone can speak their mind.

i have been wondering if others "see things" that i have been seeing.....food for thought.....or maybe i am just a bit too sensitive at times? Wink

That would level-out the playing field a little more.
And then maybe after they win a prize, they could be revealed & get the recognition they deserve.

I would like to be more honest about my feelings, specifically about certain members, but, again (just as we're discussing here), I fear retaliation. It's a double-edged sword because you simply cannot be honest without repercussions. I definitely see a pattern in perceived negative comments I leave and an immediate drop in votes my deals receive. Recently, I posted two deals in less than 5 weeks -- basically the same BOGO offer from the same restaurant. The first time it gets the "Best Daily Deal." The next time, after expressing "negative" feedback, it only gets 4 votes.

Everyone needs to stop the negative voting on comments including myself. I personally think that people should not be able to neg comments because they do it before thinking about it.

Yeah, I noticed someone has been unfairly targeting you lately, clover. Not cool. 😠
Also, rumour has it this person is an alter ego of someone already on the board❕
Perhaps this matter should be further looked into because it's not fair.😬

I also agree about not allowing people to vote negative on a comment.πŸ™‹
I mean, how much can you REALLY HATE a person's COMMENT❓
      Geez...

Here we go again. Roll Eyes
Seriously, this is getting really old and is starting to make the board kinda sucky, thanks mostly to one person who raised my total negatives from 9 (this total is from when I joined in 2012 until just a few months ago) up to 13 recently❕

This, combined with the OBVIOUS problems being ignored on the board, along with the incessant favoritism is why I am taking a break. Geez, sorry I haven't been here for over a decade nor do I have the free time to spend hours posting every day - I do have a life you know, LOL!πŸ’πŸ‘―πŸ‘°πŸ’…πŸ’‡πŸ’³πŸ‘œπŸ‘ πŸ‘‘πŸ‘’πŸ‘™πŸ‘’πŸŒ΄πŸš£πŸš’βœˆπŸŒˆπŸŒžπŸ“’πŸ“šπŸŽ‰πŸŽ‹πŸŽ†πŸŽˆπŸŽ‚πŸŽ πŸŽ’πŸŽ‘πŸŽͺ🎬πŸŽ₯πŸ“·πŸ“ΉπŸŽ°πŸƒπŸŽ²πŸŽ€πŸŽ§πŸŽΆπŸŽ΅πŸŽΌπŸ“€πŸŽΉπŸŽΈπŸˆπŸ›€

Just in case my break is permanent and I don't come back, I'd like to say goodbye to all the nice, sweet BUXR members (you know who you are.)πŸ™‹

To the rest, you can kiss my well-toned booty.😘

I stopped posting deals because of it. I'm not an expert like many on the site, including you, but I experienced retaliatory voting -- either because of negative feedback I left or my lack of voting for a particular person's deal. It's disappointing because it seems as though all of the feedback and suggestions are just ignored or immediately dismissed because they "wouldn't work." Nothing in life can move forward successfully without change. (In addition, I felt some of the moderators were condescending and had a bit too much ego.) Yes, I admit, I visit the site once or twice a week for just a few minutes. (I still appreciate the deals I find.) As a former occasional contributor, I wish the site had been more fun with just a little friendly competition -- not the highly incestuous environment it had become. (incestuous:(of human relations generally) excessively close and resistant to outside influence.)

If I disable negative votes then people will start lashing out with their comments. How sad it may sound, it seems to be human nature... Sad

Sad that we have lost so many members that offered great deals because of a select few. Hopefully they will return someday.

The bumping of deal submissions with comments is out of control.
