Krispy Kreme is sold to holding company that is also buying coffee brands worldwide

submitted on May 10, 2016 by HouTex in "Products / Gadgets"

Here's an interesting bit of news: A wealthy German business holding company seems to be building a giant coffee and doughnut empire. They've just bought Krispy Kreme doughnuts, following their purchase of Keurig Green Mountain in December 2015.
They also own chains Caribou Coffee and Peet's Coffee & Tea and controlling stakes in a number of other brands including Tassimo, Maxwell House, Gevalia, Einstein Noah Restaurant Group, Espresso House and Baresso Coffee. The company has spent more than $30 billion in the past four years acquiring coffee companies in the U.S. and Europe.

At the close of the transaction, Krispy Kreme will be privately owned and will continue to be independently operated from Krispy Kreme’s current headquarters in Winston-Salem, N.C.

What do you think? Can this comglomerate challenge coffee or doughnut giants Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts?

Don't think so. They got rid of our Krispy Kreme a couple of years ago. There is one about 16 miles away. Walmart carries them in boxes at the registers but it's not the same as the fresh, hot Krispy Kreme!
