Just wondering how many of us are expecting Hurricane Irene

submitted on August 26, 2011 by mommy25 in "Member's Lounge"
I live in the Boston area, tropical storm and tornadoes for us. My sister is in N.C right on the water, right in the middle of it all. I am scared for her and her family right now. She will not evacuate, and her husband will have to stay at work throughout the storm. Please pray for them. Thanks to all who do. Stay safe...wish everyone the best.
I am expecting to lose electricity...so no internet... Sad

Good luck to you and your sister and you'll certainly be in prayers! I am in FL but escaped it, as I am on the gulf coast.

I am 30 miles southeast of Boston. Expecting violent winds and trying to figure out how far east or west the storm will track. Going out for my "french toast" later today.

I was suppose to be driving today from philly to concord NH for a wedding. Then coming home on sunday. Decided to not go. Don't want to get stuck in the middle of the storm.

DC area - I think it's going to swing by us. Effect will be more on the coast. The paintball place says they are open till 4. Rains are going to start around 3-4pm.

I think your sis will be fine. It sure will be an experience though. Good luck to them.

All of you who are in the area of the Hurricane you are in my thoughts. Hurricane Charley....I was without power for five days. My Parent's are in NC an hour from the coast and they just got some rain but nothing major.

We heard that over a million people are without power already, in NC and VA.
The storm is expected to bring a 4-8 foot surge plus 6 foot more @ high tide when it reaches NYC.

Good to hear from you mommy25, I was concerned whether you had lost power in your area. Take care and let us know how you are whenever you can.

Thanks Hou..well we lost power for the better part of the day, but it is on now thankfully. It wasn't too bad here just alot of fallen trees, and power outages. I'm back!! Big Grin

Here I am sitting at the library, charging laptops, ipods, and iphones, and using their wireless network (yeah for libraries, by the way!). Our power went out at 9:11 yesterday morning. Trees on lines and one broken utility pole on our street. We had no real damage... one pine fell and broke a fence rail in the horse pasture, but they wanted nothing to do with it. Irene was big and windy, but gentle in her damage here.
I have chosen Thursday at 2:00 pm in our neighborhood power restore pool. I think the prize is spoiled food collected from freezers and fridges, so I hope I don't win.

Please keep us updated Equipurple. "Irene was big and windy, but gentle in her damage here". Very well said, explains it exactly. My daughter lives about 15 minutes away, her power has yet to be restored as well. We are 1 of a lucky few.

Still a quarter of a million users in Mass without power. The problem is mostly that it is scattered outages on streets with lines down rather than big outages from transformers or substations. Takes time to get power on for 50 houses on each street, or even one or two.
