is anyone having trouble with the search feature on this site?

submitted on May 8, 2014 by mdshopper1 in "Buxr Website / Contests"
just wanted to know if i am the only one having trouble with the search feature on this site? i type in "mally" to look under deals matching mally and nothing comes up at all. this has also caused me to submit duplicates. i know i have added mally beauty deals before. i am using firefox as my browser and i have my settings to sort by activity, show expired, show all threshold, area-all deals.

Have you tried to "browse by store" for your search? That should work. Or even "search by tags" for Health and Beauty or Cosmetics. I usually don't use store names in the text search.

wondering why some stores show up in the text search and some do not?
i guess i have to start using the deals by store feature more than the text feature.

Your ASPCA freebie that you just posted is one that I thought someone had posted before because I ordered it. I can't pull up the old one though so yes I have had problems with the search features, not often though.

The ASPCA deal didn't show up because the original submission was too old (older than one year) and was never turned to 'ongoing' deal. Search doesn't show such deals.

Regarding the failed search for 'Mally'. In this case Buxr was trying to be intelligent when it shouldn't not. Let me explain what's going on.

When you search for generic terms, like say 'flashing drives' you usually want to get results for anything that has the same root as your keywords, e.g: 'flashed drives', 'flash drives', 'flashing drive', etc. Note how I intermix different forms of word 'flash' and 'drive'.

Buxr has search algorithm that is capable to detect these forms and do the right thing, 99% of the times. Sometimes however it breaks and interprets a proper noun as a generic term and extracts a root, which wouldn't be your intention.

When that happens, I need to add the search term to the list of exception (which I just did for Mally). Then next time you search for it you will see what you expect rather than something else. Hope this is not too confusing of an explanation. Smile
