Important changes to how we process your prize payments

submitted on August 5, 2009 by YanBz in "Buxr Website / Contests"
We are changing the way how accumulated winnings are paid out to the Buxr members participating in our contests.

Effective immediately we will not send you your winnings unless you have requested a payment. Your prizes will be logged as usual in the 'My Activity' section of the contests page but now you will need to go to the (newly added) 'Balance' section and request a payment when your balance reaches $25.

This change help us streamline our payments process and to introduce more features in the coming days that rely on this functionality. Stay tuned!

P.S. We have not updated the FAQ page or the terms yet (this is where you will soon find more details). Meanwhile if you have any questions - please post them in the comments

Why is my balance only $40? I won the $50 monthly prize stated in the blog and "prize" email.

We adjusted the amount after we discovered that you and ashley (#9) have the same number of points. Both you and ashley were awarded $40 in the monthly contest.

The original prize for #8 is $50 and the prize for #9 is $25. We added these prizes up and divided between you two (after rounding them up). Makes sense?

Sorry for not catching the error before we made the announcement. That night Mike had no power at home and we had to run the contest in a hurry over his cell phone.

Just a suggestion.... Some users might never get to $25 balance..or it might take them a looong time to get there... I believe it would be easier to pay all outstanding balances on the 1st of each month...just my 2 cents... Big Grin

Emma, let me explain a bit where this limitation comes from and what is our logic.

    1. The $25 limit have little effect on our active members who have been with us for a while and/or plan to stay with us in the future. Just look at how much each of them made last month. Wink

    2. Paying out each prize every week is time consuming and inefficient. It was taking Mike at least an hour every Thursday even with all the automation I have built in. Aggregating the payments in chunks of $25 or more helps us reduce the number of payments and the time we spend handling them.

    3. We are planning to add new features that will make use of the $$ you save up in your account. Say, how would you like to spend $0.5 or $1 and improve the chances of your deal to get noticed by others? This is where the saving will come handy. Wink

    4. We would really like to encourage people to save up a bit before they withdraw. Isn't it a frugal thing to do? Smile

As to the comment that new users will get discouraged... I think you guys already have enough competition. Wink Our current priority is to bring more features to Buxr for the members who do not participate in the contests and to make their shopping/community experience more pleasant. More about it later.

On "referred" friends, who might not stay in the long run, you might want to lower the cash-out.

OK, all payments have been sent to those who requested them. We still see a lot of people who are eligible, but have not requested payment. Please try do so in a timely manner so we can get your payments out as soon as possible.

Can we still receive payments in the form of Amazon Gift cards or do we HAVE to sign up for the other methods ( paypal ,amazon payout, OBO etc..)

How about lowering the limit to $10.

$25 can take a while for people who are not frequent. They might lose interest and never come back.

    Or MAYBE

the first payout you can probably keep as $10 and the subsequent ones at $25. Then the newbie who wins the first time sees some real prize money and retains interest in the website. ( Apart from them being drawn by the SUPER deals we post Mr Green )
