    some obvious clues:

    coupons kinda fuzzy (not clear)
appears altered in some manner (expiration date, quantities allowed, etc)
If the deal is too good to be true - especially from retailers that seldom release coupons such as $5 off a 4 pack of Red Bull

If we're talking mfr. coupons you can also cross reference here to see some of the latest fraudulent manufacturer's coupons being circulated:

Never install software to get your coupons unless it is from a "trusted and respectable" site.

Not really about a fake coupon, but a warning about sites offering fake coupons.

Very good point about not installing software from non-reputable sources. Another thing I would recommend is installing an anti-malware app such as Spybot Search & Destroy (and run the teatimer that comes with it). This program will help prevent changes to your Windows registry that can get corrupted just by visiting the wrong site. I accidentally clicked on a coupon site link from a google search and my PC was corrupted with malware (Antivirus XP). It was a total pain rid my computer of this fake software.
