How to Get Smooth Streaming and Skype Video?

In considering the purchase of a new hard drive, clover brought up an excellent question that would be of interest to many of our members:

If I do any streaming or when I am with my Mom on Skype the whole computer goes nuts. It's a streaming thing. I have cleaned everything up and it doesn't help. I have a 180GB and still have half unused. Any help would be much appreciated!

Please add any advice you may have, to help solve this problem.

I thought maybe not enough RAM might be the problem and asked -

How much memory is in your PC? That may be one reason the video is slow or choppy. You can analyze the memory you have with this tool http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/ or increase virtual memory (space on your hard drive to simulate more RAM) using these directions - http://www.delete-computer-his.....emory.html .

Any other suggestions?

clover, please add your PC specs (OS version, etc.).
You previously said you had a 160 GB hard drive with half of the space still available.

I changed the virtual memory to your suggestion. I actually remember doing this to my old computer. I will let you know on this post if it has helped the problem. Thank you!!!
