Hold on to your $1 bills - They could become tomorrow's collectible.

Earlier this month, the U.S. Government Accountability Office issued a formal proposal to the Treasury and Federal Reserve noting that if it eliminated the $1 bill and replaced it with the $1 coin, the country could save roughly $5.5 billion during the next 30 years. The reason, according to the agency's report, is that dollar bills have a shorter lifespan than dollar coins because they wear much faster, which in turn requires the government to spend more to print new bills.
1. Do you think the paper $1 will be eliminated?

2. Would the coin $1 be a welcome change for you?

I just heard in the news today that because of rising cotton prices, the bill now costs 10 cents to make, twice what it cost last year

See, with that news and with inflation, it only makes sense to start making your own money Amused (disclaimer: don't try this at home)

Many countries have done away with the "paper" money in the lower values. England has a 1 British Pound coin, Germany has a 1 Deutsche Mark coin. I would be very happy to see this change. But, I suspect it may not happen quick enough. This would mean changing all the vending machines to accept these new coins (also costing money) which may upset a few junk food addicts.

The kiddies will truly love it if dollar bills go to coins because we always give them our change for the piggybank.
