submitted on July 1, 2009 by MacGyver in "Buxr Website / Contests"
This might get me kicked off of Buxr but I thought that the community of Buxr should know this little piece of information. Wink

This was a chat with myself and Yan 8 days ago.

Buxr: Hi Kyle, this is Yan
What's up, Kyle?

me: ok, how come you deleted Solstice's posts that I asked about the other day?

Buxr: That was a bug, Kyle

me: He was posting on a topic that never existed.... How did he do that? And who was he talking to?

Buxr: Power users have a part of the discussion forums visible only to them. This is why you couldn't see it.

me: Thought so... so what happened to no private posts? Like PM s?

Buxr: Hm?

me: You said a few months ago when I asked if Buxr would ever have PM's you said that people could have voting groups, and that would be unfair...

me: You said that nothing should be private.

Buxr: What does it have to do with the Power user only forums?
These forums are not by interest

me: What?

Buxr: Power users have certain rights

me:So what rank do you have ti be to become a "power user"?

Buxr: Sometimes we want to ask them to follow certain guidelines
E.g when they moderate deals
This doesn't apply to other users
Hence it is logical to discuss these topics in private

me: So what rank do you have to be to become a "power user"?

Because I've been here for a while and would be a "professor" if I didn't change my name

Buxr: A few things have to happen:
1. You need to be active on Buxr
2. You need to be accurate with deal submissions (price, tags, etc)
3. We need to be confident you are not a cheater
The 'Power' title is not bound to your rank

me: So if you thought that a learner was all that you would make him/her a power user?

Buxr: We usually wait for at least a month to make any decision

me: Some people have been on here for a long time, more that a couple of months and they still aren't.
a power user

Buxr: This means they don't satisfy one of the 3 criteria items I listed above

me: Ok, what about your other comment,
Sometimes we want to ask them to follow certain guidelines
E.g when they moderate deals
This doesn't apply to other users
Hence it is logical to discuss these topics in private

me:I think it would be fair to have ALL the post in the open.
so there is no question what's going on behind the scenes....

Buxr: I don't see a problem with that. We intend to accept more users to the group. We use the forums to discuss certain aspect that we don't want to be publicly visible. For example we have a running thread for branded coupons

me: Or at least tell people that there are posts that only power users can see so they don't think that the "power users" are doing something behind the scenes.

Buxr: Sure. I will post something today

(This was 8 days ago.)

me: ok, that's a little better, but why did you say Solstice's posts was a bug?

Buxr: The posts were not a bug. The fact you could see them was.
I had to make a code change last night to fix it

me: so now I can't see any thing that he post's under the hidden forum?

Buxr: That is right

me: how about you cut and paste this chat session on buxr so that everyone can see what were talking about.

Buxr: That discussion was about chinnam trying to use friends to cheat the contests

me: But I'm sure that that there are more threads

Buxr: I don't want it exposed just yet
Kyle, I don't understand you point. Why would I want to cut/paste something from the Power discussions?

me: So every one can see what's happening behind the scenes

Buxr: I got to run now, let's continue this conversation later

Hi everyone - I am a newbie - have recently created an account (so I could vote) after coming here for months to take advantage of all the wonderful deals. As someone who is not a power user and doesn't really intend to post deals, it would be nice to have the ability to use that coupon thread (and any other coupon/discount type of info that is on that forum)as I do coupon-ing for my grocery shopping. I also think that transparency and having clear-cut rules (as far as how to become a power user) are always the best policy in a community to ensure that things are equal and fair. Just my opinion. i don't understand the point of all this.

Also the communication you had with Yan via email is a private conversation between you and him. It doesn't belong here.

anything said to you in confidence off buxr and through email really doesn't belong on buxr cause if it did it would have been said here instead of direct email.

That pretty much sums up any response I would have had to this thread.

But the point was that Yan said he was going to post about this, "secret forum" and never did. And this thread was posted for all those who were not "power users", and were not invited to the secret forum.

I agree with MacGyver. I don't like to be treated like an outsider. I am trying to contribute equally to BUXR.

And please don't reply back telling me to "pay my dues" Big Grin

Truth be told, usually the topics are overly mundane or inappropriate for the public forums, when any casual site visitor can see the public ones.

Its not a truly "secret forum", as there are least 10-12 power users floating around by this point, if not more, and they are routinely monitored by Administration as well as often involved in conversations there.

They are also used relatively infrequently, and there have only been a handful of threads begun in the Power-User forums since they started having them 6 months ago.

Ok that is the second time you have quoted me and my "paying your dues" comment.

This is what paying your dues means. MacGyver posted it for all to see.

      1. You need to be active on Buxr
      2. You need to be accurate with deal submissions (price, tags, etc)
      3. We need to be confident you are not a cheater

That what I meant by paying your dues. After the admins (Yan and Mike), feel that you have satisfied all of those criteria, they and only they will make you a power user. Then you can consider your dues paid.

      @Solstice

Sounds like you picked it right off Bourne Identity "there are least 10-12 power users floating around by this point......and they are routinely monitored by Administration"

and tell my why am I not supposed to think this is a covert operation Mr Green Mr Green . The US administration errr...... BUXR administration is hiding stuff from the common people.

And I think JackBauer knows more ....

I'm done with this conversation, as you've just stepped too far into fiction to have any relevance.

I'm sorry, but I think you see a problem because you want there to be one, and nothing more.

How did you find out about Season 8? Now the writers are going to have to go back and change everything since you figured out the script to Season 8: Covert Threads.

      @Jack

I know I did quote you on "paying your dues" comment. You just make it sound like I have an obligation/debt/contract to fulfill.

It's more of a requirement as I understand and (which s at the discretion of the ADMIN) ... When you use that line, it makes you sound like a DICTATOR. I thought you were jackBauer

JackBauer is far from a dictator. Jack Bauer has trained and worked in various capacities as a government agent, including U.S. Army Delta Force, Los Angeles Police Department SWAT, CIA, and finally the Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU).

Secondly, I wasn't ordering you, but you have a obligation/debt/contract to fulfill to be a part of this community. That obligation/debt/contract is:

      1. You need to be active on Buxr
      2. You need to be accurate with deal submissions (price, tags, etc)
      3. We need to be confident you are not a cheater

Is that so much to ask?

It's not a secret forum. Yan already told you that the power user forum deals with power user related issues. If you're not a power user than these are issues that really don't concern you.

To refresh your memory, I never once put it in that harsh of a manner of an ultimatum (or else).

If you want to become a power user and have the same privileges bestowed on us, pay your dues, post your accurate deals and wait like the rest of us did. You have only been here for 2 months. Wait your turn, follow the rules, post good deals and you will become a power user as well.

Looks like I mentioned Criteria # 2 - Post accurate deals and Criteria #3 - follow the rules.

      How is that harsh?

MacGyver, Mike made this announcement the day you and I chatted:

    http://www.buxr.com/topic/plea.....-users_696

It explains what the "power user forum" is and why we have it. Did you expect something else?
