Hershey's Launches 1st New Product in 30 Years - and it's NOT Chocolate

submitted on October 12, 2013 by HouTex in "Products / Gadgets"
The Hershey Company is introducing its first new brand in the United States in 30 years. The soft candy called Lancaster will be available in January 2014 in three flavors -- caramel, vanilla and caramel, and vanilla and raspberry. The name comes from the founder's original confection company, the Lancaster Caramel Co. back in 1886.

This milk-based soft candy is expected to appeal to men and women in their twenties and early thirties, and comes in two sizes that will sell for $3.99 and $2.49.

A similar product has already been introduced in 3 cities in China. Caramel is a fast-growing category globally, growing faster than chocolate and other non-chocolate candies.

I've heard of these, I was watching one the food shows on Travel Channel or Destination America a few months ago. They are HUGE in China. They had said that chocolate wasn't as popular there as caramel is and that Hershey developed these to meet the needs of the country. Remember watching and thinking, I would like to try them. Well, I guess now I can! WOOHOO!
