Hasbro's Monopoly Gets a Makeover

submitted on February 4, 2010 by siggy38 in "Products / Gadgets"

Hasbro has unveiled the design of the new 75th anniversary edition of their classic board game, Monopoly, set to hit stores in fall of 2010. "Monopoly: Revolution Edition" is slick and round instead of dull and square, with debit cards and an ATM instead of paper money and a banker, clear plastic representations of the classic tokens, and clips of popular songs that play after certain actions.

That makes me angry. The new look is nice, and I like some of the new features. But including clips from songs? You've got to be kidding me. For one if you hate the songs it picks then it'll be irritating. For two no matter how much you like the song it's bound to get old. And three how long til those songs are outdated and the game won't get played? I can understand in keeping up with current times but the song part is just a cheap gimmick that wasn't thought out too well.

Its funky but I kind of like it. The electric thing is nice as I own the electonic version already. And its a little annoying still as the banker with it. So a central machine where it takes care of it all is nice. The circle thing is different, but that means there will be more room on the table which is nice! Like others the songs thing I could certainly do without. Maybe there is a way to turn that feature off?

I'm partial to my LOTR version of Monopoly. Smile

On a side note, I always thought having to count your paper money made for a minor learning element for younger children. Being able to count helps achieve full capitalistic indoctrination, or is it just being able to spend money that is required for that? Big Grin

I don't like it! The circle is nice, cause it looks like it could be rotated during play....songs...heck no! I will be keeping my original monopoly game with the paper money! If it's not broke...don't fix it!!!
