Wishing everyone a festive day of sharing with friends and family! Each of us celebrate in a different way, and many of us will continue to carry out the tradition of turkey and pumpkin pie. For some a more modern tradition comes to us while stores open to kick off the Holiday Season ahead for the next 30 days before Santa arrives.
This year, 2015, Thanksgiving particularly falling on November 26th is a day in history when President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a bill officially establishing the fourth Thursday in November as Thanksgiving Day in 1941.
Starting with the proclaimed holiday by George Washington on November 26th every year until Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving fall the last Thursday of November:
President George Washington became the first president to proclaim a Thanksgiving holiday, when, at the request of Congress, he proclaimed November 26, a Tuesday, as a day of national thanksgiving for the U.S. Constitution. However, it was not until 1863, when President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving to fall on the last Thursday of November, that the modern holiday was celebrated nationally.
