Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! Why is There Not a Category for This National Holiday?

submitted on January 16, 2011 by deby32953 in "Sales / Promotions"
I submitted several deals the past few days that directly honored this special man who worked for the equality of all people, and was surprised there wasn't a category for this national holiday.

(KTVI - FOX2now.com) — Monday, January 17, 2011, Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the United State. All federal, state, county, and city offices and services, including the U.S. Post Office will be closed in observance (As well as all public schools.) The holiday honors the birthday of the civil rights leader, which is actually Jan. 15. It is observed on the third Monday of January each year.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'" Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities. What are you going to do this year? My son and I are going to collect a few boxes of clothing and toys to donate to our local Salvation Army.

Doesn't Martin Luther King Jr Day deserve or need a category for when we submit our deals?

Unfortunately I went to school when there was bus segregation and am very thankful for Dr. Martin Luther King for his Civil Rights Movement helping people come together. Our community always holds a Memorial Service in his honor with donations to help those in need of a helping hand.

That's wonderful. There is a whole schedule of events in the tri-county area in FL Today's" newspaper. I have to decide which to take Noah too this year.

I was a little give living in Michingan during Civil Rights Movement. I remember my mother hysterically crying in April, 1968 when he was assassinated. She was a big supporter as was most in the N. I always made sure to teach my students about him and why they were getting a day off school although it wasn't required!

I grew up in Cleveland where there was rioting in the early 60's and we were afraid to sit on our own porch back then.
