Good Idea or Crazy? Mom Plans Meal Schedule for a Year

I saw that on the news yesterday and thought that's just nuts. I can see planning your meals out weekly, monthly and maybe even 2-3 months in advance. (something I've never done)
But to do it a year in advance is somewhat of a joke imo.

They said she saves more money this way but I'm not exactly sure about this since stores change sales every week, new coupons come out all the time and what she purchased for maybe $2.00 when planning that meal last year could now be free this month with a sale/coupon combined.

Also I don't see much of a variety in a meal plan that lasts for a year. If she was buying what was on sale at only one point than she's missing out on a lot of future deals.

We enjoy the spontaneity of deciding what we'd like to eat, and would never give that up. We save money by including sales and coupons in our decisions, but making those choices more often is part of the fun! Of course, there are certain staples that we keep on hand all the time, and we buy those in quantity only when they're on sale. But I'll bet we can outsave her with our method! We just make menus based on the sales du jour, and really enjoy the variety and seasonal availability.
