"Getting To Know You"

submitted on February 27, 2011 by clover in "Member's Lounge"
This is a look in to all of us. This is a fun thing that we can learn about our "Buxr" friends. What is something you collect? It could be something that you have collected all of your life like baseball cards, Barbies, nostalgia etc. I will start. I collect fortunes from "Fortune Cookies." I had other collections but this is what I have stuck with. Anyone else willing to offer?

I collect funny cows. They have to be silly looking or have something wrong with them in order for me to like them. However I think I'm starting to outgrow my collection and have been thinking about getting rid of it lately.

I used to collect old video game stuff but ran out of room but I'm thinking about picking that one back up. I found a lot more enjoyment from that than my silly cows.

I collect books. Too many books! I've been wanting to get an ereader for about a year and a half now. I'm just really scared I won't be able to continue my book habit to the extent I can now with swapping & trading books, and I'll have wasted my money. Every so often I go on my local freecycle group and get rid of certain collections of authors, which only winds up leading to more books that the people I meet recommend.

I collect coffee cups, frog stuff, bears, books, and especially cookbooks! Hard to have room for it all, so I swap out my collection every so often.

I love collecting movies too! I have a very big collection and wide array of movies. I probably have close to 450 movies now, but I did sell a bunch on ebay last year that I just knew I'd never watch again. It was sad but at the same time I was proud of myself for getting organized.

I have always enjoyed reading and collecting mystery books. Now with access to even more books through eBay, I can find a wide range of authors' works in remarkable condition (if not new) for very cheap prices.

I like puppy pictures so much that I always buy calendars with dog and puppy pictures for everyone, and then I save them all after the year has passed because I still enjoy the pictures!

The best calendar I found this year (and on sale, too!) was Dogma: A Dog's Guide to Life

My calendars are Golden Retriever and dog calendars. I support the Golden Retriever Rescue organization for Orlando. I just looked up the "DOGMA" calendar. Enlighten me! Why is it so expensive? Eeek

For some reason commercial photographer Ron Schmidt's unique dog images have acquired a decent following. I like them even better than the Wegman Weimaraner calendars (which are quite expensive). He has been creating holiday cards and calendars for about 5-6 years, and each image is so perfectly designed with subtle humor and so much detail. He and his wife founded "Loose Leashes," see http://www.looseleashes.com/ . Another thing I like is that animal welfare issues are extremely important to them, and a portion of all sales are donated to causes that support animal rights.

His high quality calendars are sold in bookstores, on Amazon, and even at Walmart. If I time my purchase carefully, I can catch them almost half off. But I noticed that the older ones are becoming collectors' items and are now posted for sale at prices that are more than the original cost!

Here are a few more examples you might enjoy:

I'm an board game player and collector, and I'm not talking about the kiddie games like Monopoly, Connect Four, or the like. There is always room for one more game. (No matter what my wife says.)

I also collect maps, mostly reprints of older older ones, and some deceptions of fantasy realms.
