Free Entrance to all 413 National Parks - Updated for 2016

submitted on April 5, 2010 by HouTex in "Member's Lounge", last updated 52 days ago by HouTex
The National Park Service turns 100 years old in 2016 and is waiving admission fees on the following selected dates throughout the year, encouraging all Americans to visit a national park this year.

New in October 2016! Download 151-page guide to all parks, complete with maps - https://www.nationalparks.org/.....3_2016.pdf

The 2016 fee-free dates will be on these 16 days:
* January 18 - Martin Luther King Jr. Day
* April 16-24 - National Park Week
* August 25-28 - National Park Service Birthday
* September 24 - National Public Lands Day
* November 11 - Veterans Day

See http://www.nps.gov/findapark/feefreeparks.htm
or http://www.nationalparks.org/
or http://findyourpark.com/find

Most of the 413 National Parks are always free, only 127 of them even charge an entrance fee on other days, ranging from $3 to $30. In addition, any fourth grade student can get a free annual pass through the Every Kid in a Park program (see https://www.everykidinapark.gov/ ), and active duty military and citizens with a permanent disability can also get free passes. Get details about all passes at http://www.nps.gov/findapark/passes.htm.

*Fee waiver includes: entrance fees, commercial tour fees, and transportation entrance fees. Other fees such as reservation, camping, tours, concession and fees collected by third parties are not included unless stated otherwise.

      Here's a link to information about land passes for 2,000 federal recreation sites - http://www.nps.gov/findapark/passes.htm - they cover entrance and standard amenity fees for a driver and passengers in a personal vehicle up to a total of 4 adults; children age 15 or under are admitted free. The passes for military, diabled Americans, and volunteers are free.

      Thank you for providing the dates for 2014 so this topic could be updated!
      I'm not sure why your search was unproductive, but I normally use as few words as possible in the search field and "national parks" found it for me.
      You're at a bit of a disadvantage, I guess, since some of the older members remember the topics and you have not seen them before today.

      Here is my technique - if a word or two gives me too many results, I add another limiting word to reduce the number. I also try variations of what I'm looking for to make sure I haven't missed anything.

    On August 24, 2016 the new Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument was added to the National Park System! Comprised of 87,500 acres in Penobscot County, Maine, the Katahdin region is a popular destination for outdoor recreation and home to a wide diversity of wildlife. It also contains spectacular mountains, important historical resources, and areas of great cultural significance. The next time you want to go hiking, camping, mountain biking, fishing, hunting, or snowmobiling, consider a visit to the newest national park!
