This bill was VERY poorly written! Many people here are taking advantage of this loophole in a tax credit bill that was actually designed to encourage people to buy fuel-efficient vehicles. You know, real electric cars that don't exist yet.

The federal government only specified that the vehicle be a qualified plug-in vehicle, which unintentionally included certain street legal golf carts. For a golf cart to qualify, it has to have windshield wipers, tail lights, headlights, blinkers and seat belts. The local golf cart dealers can hardly keep up with demand!

Since there's no limit to how many vehicles a person can buy using the tax credit, some people are buying the carts in bulk with plans to sell them for a profit once they get their tax credit.

It just depends where you live. Lots of non-golfers are buying them here. Of course, real estate agents and car dealers already use them to show potential customers what they have for sale. Marinas and apartment complexes use them to deliver items or collect trash. But now, because of this opportunity, lots more people near the coast here are riding around their neighborhoods in them, and driving to the water's edge for an outing. Works for a weekend place, or gated community, too, where you don't have to go very far.
(Wow, I've nearly convinced myself that we need one, but it's a storage problem!)
