Firefox 4 released - crushes IE9 in number of downloads. Checkout new features

submitted on March 23, 2011 by orangearrows in "Products / Gadgets"
Just downloaded Firefox 4 - pretty sleek. Most of the Add-ons are not compatible though.

On Tuesday, Mozilla declared that Firefox 4 was ready for download, and customers apparently went on a clicking spree.

Mozilla has confirmed that Firefox 4 has surpassed 5 million downloads in its first 24 hours.

These figures are more than double those reported by Microsoft after Internet Explorer 9 made its own debut. After IE9’s first day, the Windows Team Blog reported that the IE9 software had received 2.35 million downloads in its first 24 hours.

I've already downloaded ver. 4 on all my computers. I have noticed a bit of a speed difference, especially on my home computers. My work computer is way to slow.

Yeah - running pretty smooth for me - but missing my add-ons. Although some of the add-ons are in-built in this release.

Clover, go to the View menu, click Toolbars, and make sure the Navigation Toolbar is checked. If you don't see the menu either, click Alt+V to reach it and make sure Menu Toolbar is checked as well.

I have had a hard time with Mozilla recently. It is running very slow for me. I use Google Chrome but have a lot of problems with that. The school district I work for requires me to use Internet Explorer which I don't like. I will give this a try. I don't use any add-ons on Mozilla.

*sigh* Sometimes I hate having three computers. They all require updating.

There's a BIG difference in speed for me. The previous version had slowed to an unbearable c-r-a-w-l before I upgraded to version 4. I only lost 2 add-ons, most of the others were compatible and 3 that weren't had updates available. Artistic Happy camper here!

Well I was able to make the previous version faster by uninstalling the weather add-on ( forecastfox). The moment I uninstalled it - things were snappier and Ffox would not hang on me.

I am now using Firefox 4 over my Google Chrome. It's much faster page loading over Chrome.
