Firefox 3.6.8 - Very slow and takes forever to load a page. Any Fixes?

submitted on July 27, 2010 by orangearrows in "Products / Gadgets"
Since I upgraded to 3.6.8 version - it takes forever to load a page. Any fixes to speed up things.

I found a support forum but no fixes yet.

Was hoping someone here know a little more.

thanks in advance

Well I am did give 4.0 Beta 1 a shot earlier - but then downgraded to 3.6.8
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html

I found a link to 4.03 beta - going to give it a shot and see how it goes. Will update

Note these are BETA versions ( testing version to iron out bugs) - will have to tread the MINEFIELD Wink

Were you getting any script errors? That is happening for me with gmail on Firefox v 3.6.8, and would cause the pages to freeze until the error dialog box appeared.

NO script errors - just that everything was running very slow. What I type --- would take forever to show up. Also wrong buttons were getting clicked. Since the firebug update - things seem to have improved for the good. But someone did mention on the forums that even after updating Fbug - nothing improved for them. Hopefully the Firefox dev team is looking into it. Seems like a widespread issue.

Minefield is much faster - snappy

ADD-ons are not supported though - but looks simple

    Best of all it's faster

Also for Ffox 3.6.8 there seems to be an issue with the firebug add-on

This was added to support forums

    Scott Gurley
    Firefox user

I found the solution! For me at least. My firebug add-on was stuck at 1.4.5... it never would say there was a new version... I started turning off add-ons and realized that firebug was causing ALL my problems. I downloaded and installed the latest 1.5.4 and it works great now.

here is the link to the add-on

Well mine was not installed earlier - but after installing it on Firefox 3.6.8 -- it's working much much faster. No stuttering.

I think firebug is a dev tool ( YAN can add more to it) -- it did fix the slowness though.

Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling firefox? I too have 3.6.8 and everything seems fine.
