Entertainment Book publisher closes and lays off 667 employees

submitted on March 14, 2013 by HouTex in "Products / Gadgets"
Little is known about this action, except that Entertainment Promotions was unable to secure funding and closed its doors after 50 years Tuesday, laying off 667 employees. This company publishes the book of discount coupons sold online and by thousands of parents and students in 95 markets to raise funds for band, football, and other school activities.
Despite the closing, as of Tuesday afternoon, Entertainment Promotions' website was still taking orders for books. The company's Facebook and Twitter pages were still posting offers for the books on Tuesday morning.

Company officials were not talking Tuesday except for an outside spokesman, Bill Daddi, who confirmed the closing but said he could not reveal any other details. He referred calls to the company's legal counsel, which did not return calls.

Many blog posts reported the closing, and expressed concern that buyers of the books could find that the coupons may not be honored once the news reaches everyone.

This offer is posted on their website, where people can still order the discounted books.
It's unclear if orders placed after today would be honored or cancelled.

Oh no I love this book. Has the best golf discounts, and the season is just about to start. I hope the courses honor the coupons, I honestly saves hundreds from these with the buy 1 got 1 green fees Twisted

I am sure the businesses would still honor the coupons (it would be bad business not to). It doesn't cost anything to be in the Entertainment Book, and businesses don't receive any cut (like they do with Groupon). My restaurant has a coupon in the Entertainment Book and we will honor it until it expires.

I have notice that the coupons in the books are not as good as they used to be and lately has not seemed to be worth the money. Many of the coupons offered can be found other places for free!! I did get one this year, but was very dissapointed.

I hope they don't plan on charging me next year for a book because I'm on automatic renewal plan.

i got my 2014 book a few months ago for only $5 when i signed up for auto renewal, which i could cancel at any time. i just received my 2015 book which i can also start using now. for me, it pays for itself using just 2 or 3 of the coupons usually.

I believe there is a penalty or cancellation fee for canceling auto renewal, if you received a promo price on current book. Be sure to read the fine print. That's why I didn't take advantage of the $5 promo price.

there was no penalty for cancellation, but i did not cancel....i wanted the 2015 book because it pays for itself.

Pay only $5 with free shipping when you sign up for annual renewal. This is the lowest price you will see on the Entertainment Book. You will save far more than the price of this book when you use the first coupon! Annual renewal can be cancelled later if you receive your book and decide you do not wish to receive the 2015 book.

FROM WEBSITE: "If you cancel prior to receiving your first book through the Annual Renewal program your credit card will be charged a $5 cancelation fee. If you do not cancel your Annual Renewal Membership, Entertainment® will charge your credit card when the new book is printed and ready to ship. If you return your book after receiving it, you will be charged $7.95 for return shipping & handling. This fee is a direct pass-through cost for shipping the book(s) back to Entertainment®. The $7.95 return shipping and handling charge can be waived if you return the book(s) at your own cost. However, you must contact Member Services to have the charge waived."

    thanks for the clarification bkchavez!
as i said, the books are worth it for me because we use the coupons and discounts.
the initial book was well worth $10 for my city if i had cancelled the future orders.
