In 1938 the Salvation Army began the tradition of National Donut Day to commemorate the World War I "Donut Lassies" who served donuts to the soldiers in World War I and to bring awareness to and help raise funds for the Salvation Army. This year marks the 75th Celebration of National Donut Day, a holiday tradition celebrated the first Friday in June every year.
