Drag And Drop Deals

submitted on January 23, 2009 by phunkeey in "Buxr Website / Contests"
Buxr should look into providing a place for members and visitors to simply drag and drop web addresses where deals are found. Then perhaps power users and administrators could sift through them and post them if they are good. This might provide a way for users and visitors who want to contribute but are too lazy to actually post the deal. Also it could be a place for members to "save" deals and post them later.

Good idea. We want to create a browser plug-in for deal submission. I guess the plugin could works in two modes:
    1. Full submission - if you have an account and want to be credited for the deal.
    2. Quick submission - account is not needed, the deal URL goes to a pool for review and then any member can submit the deal.

This would be great for people like me who are still learning and would like to put in a deal but not sure how to go about doing it without mistakes. Please seriously consider this.

Admin, Burning Question... If the "full submitter" gets credit, is that post still eligible for a daily win?

Sooner or later this question would have come up, and better to rule on it before implementation.

The submitter and one person who offers the tip could split the prize! Big Grin

But if account is not needed, then how would you split it with them.

I think they should only get half credit if the deal wins. That way it gives people incentive to wade through them but it still encourages people to find their own deals.

I would probably post a lot more deals like that. It just is such a pain sometimes to go through the process of posting. Normally when I'm on here it's 2-3 minutes at a time and I would love to see this feature implemented.

Mooncow's idea is interesting. Do half the work and get half the prize, with no splitting between people. I'll like her reasoning for it as well.

Problem though.... There would be no way to differentiate between a deal that was "dropped", as oppose to the member having gone out and found it themselves. Even if a button was placed next to the "dropped" item asking if you want to submit it, a more unscrupulous member could just cut up the URL and bypass it for a regular submission.

I think its going to be an all or nothing scenario.

Well we have the deals in moderation a lot that people have to check that are time stamped to see who posted first. Maybe a similar thing would be good to do. That way the deals would be time stamped. In order to make a bad deal go away then maybe 3-5 people would all have to select it's not worth posting. So that way it rules out the 1 person stealing it.

I hear you. However, its perfectly plausible that a person could come across and post a deal through their own searching, even though it had already been "dropped". The dilemma is that you can't really prove it one way or the other. You either would have to make a "dropped" deal always take precedence or not, especially if there is any change in daily win award from "dropped" deals. I don't think you can get away form the all or nothing scenario.

The way I see it is you already have to check the queue before you post so would it take but a second longer to check the "dropped" deals. And that could be another thing to check to see if a deal is a duplicate or not with the time stamp. I know I posted something once and had it sit in moderation for hours only to have a power user come and submit the same deal. There deal was removed as a dupe and mine finally got moderated. I guess I'm just looking at it as a similar thing.
