Dollar Tree Recalls 275,000 Toy Flashlights Due to Burn Hazard
Discount store-operator Dollar Tree Stores Inc. is recalling 275,000 projector flashlights due to fire and burn hazards, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, a watchdog agency.
Wolverine, Spider-Man and Iron Man 2 projector flashlights are being recalled, the agency said Tuesday.
The flashlights can cause the batteries and bulb to overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard. Three incidents involving batteries overheating have been reported, although no injuries have been reported. In one case a flashlight melted and in one case a flashlight battery caught fire.
The projector flashlights are about 6.5 inches long and have Wolverine, Spider-Man and Iron Man characters and names printed on them.
The pack of the packaging has the number 16879-20012-003-1003 and UPC 6 39277 16879 5.
Dollar Tree imported the item from Greenbrier International Inc., in Chesapeake, Va. They were made in China.
They were sold at Dollar Tree, Dollar Bill$, Dollar Tree $1 Stop, Deal$ and Dollar Tree Deal$ stores nationwide from August 2010 for about $1.
Owners of the flashlights should take them away from children immediately, take out and discard the batteries and return the flashlights to the store it was purchased for a full refund.
