Diet-Busting Greenery: 5 Salads Worse Than a Whopper

submitted on August 21, 2010 by HouTex in "Products / Gadgets"
Think just because it’s called a salad it has to be healthy? Think again. Men’s Health magazine editor David Zinczenko turns the spotlight on five fast-food salads that pack just as many calories as a mega-burger meal.

No one who is watching their waistline would order a Whopper thinking it's a sensible menu choice. It's an indulgence, an anti-diet food, and everyone knows it. But when you order a salad, you're making an effort to eat "healthy" and realize it's not the most delicious item on the menu. But, more often than you think, that salad is the worst choice on the menu.

Restaurants across the country have learned that "nutrition" sells, so they put these caloric calamities on the "light choice" side of the menu with cute little heart icons that make you think you're making a healthy selection. What they haven't learned, though, is how to make food that is actually nutritious. Here are five examples of salads so bad that you'd be better off ordering that Whopper — with its 670 calories, 40 grams of fat and 1,020 milligrams of sodium — after all.

Click on "show more items" or the "explainer" to see the full text about all 5 of these salads, with nutritional information and suggestions for a better choice alternative at each restaurant.
From Wendy's, Quiznos, Appleby's California Pizza Kitchen, and TGI Friday's.

Does this mean that I can't throw some lettuce one my steak and fries to make it healthy? Sad
