Did HPs Touchpad sale kill the $499 Tablet? Permalink

submitted 279 days ago by orangearrows in "Products / Gadgets"
With people getting used to $99 prices for a high quality tablet (although this sale IS an exception) , would they ever pay $499 for a tablet ever again. Am sure it's will change the buying perception of people going forward.
Also this sale sure killed (or reduced) the sale expectations of quite a few tablet makers since there will be about 1-2 million less tablet buyers when all this stock is finally liquidated.

I would not pay $499 anymore- definitely not. What about you?

I would not have paid $500 for a tablet even before this sale. Laptops are cheaper and more practical, and I have a smartphone if I need to get really moble. A tablet doesn't belong to either camp and looks like a luxury (or a toy) to me.

You got a point. I am able to do everything from my phone - apart from movie watching or mayyyybbe playing games - tablet does not enhance any other experience. If I have the next Galaxy S2 - wouldn't need a tablet.

I love that phone too. When my contract was due for renewal last month, I got myself the next best thing after Galaxy S2: HTC Sensation 4G. Wink

The 4.3" screen is a lot of fun and very convenient for web browsing. All my smart phones before this had a physical keyboard and I was reluctant to get a phone w/o a keyboard at first. So far I am very satisfied and using a keyboard on 4.3" screen is not that bad once you get used to it.

I just use the stock keyboard that Android came with. Is there big difference?

This will do nothing to the prices. I was reading that while many people think tablets are big sellers, only the iPad has had any real success. Everyone else will try to be a bit cheaper, but they won't produce a product with similar quality to tempt people away.

Another one is going to bite the dust. With Amazon's new 7"tablet coming out my bets are on a firesale soon.
