Did anyone try Facebook Deals app yet?

submitted on November 17, 2010 by YanBz in "Member's Lounge"
Facebook came out with a location based "deals" app for iPhone earlier this month. Has anyone given it a try yet? Do they have a web version for those w/o iPhone? It sure not in the Android Marketplace. Cry

Yan, this blog http://www.facebook.com/blog.php?post=446167297130 says that the new Android 1.4 update includes the launch of Places and Groups, so you can check in to your favorite restaurant, museum, business or any other location from your Android phone.

I don't have this myself, so I haven't tried it, but it shows a screen print and says "Following on the heels of our launch of Groups on Facebook.com less than a month ago, you can now access those same groups from your Android phone."

I tried it on the iPhone. I got the GAP deal when they launched it (there was a GAP outlet near my house). I have to say the deals are limited (or none) most of the time. At this point foursquare has a lot more deals in my area.

New development: Facebook is launching "Deals" as a part of the main website in select cities:

Starting Tuesday, Facebook is releasing Deals as a “test” in five cities: Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, San Diego and San Francisco. The company, which has more than 600 million members, said it hoped that its ability to tap directly into the communications and activities of networks of friends will help it offer a more compelling service than rivals. It will be easy to share deals with friends, see when a friend buys something and find offers that your friends are interested in, said Emily White, Facebook’s director for local. Facebook will focus on offers for things that are best done with friends, like concerts or events, she said.

Post a comment here with some screen shots. Unfortunately I am not in one of the 'test' markets so I can't do it myself... Sad
