Deal question

submitted on May 11, 2009 by onkarkulkarni in "Buxr Website / Contests"
Is there a way to know when a deal is going to expire? Currently when I post a deal, it just disappears from the home page by which I know it's expired.

Also could it be possible to fix the time of the contest results so that we can post the deal accordingly and it doesn't expire just to keep it aligned with the "new" contest rules?

There are controls on the right hand side of the deals page that let you show/hide expired deals (see the screen shot below).

Now that we have new rules, I will try to be more consistent with the contest time or better yet will change the algorithm to go by precisely specific time (e.g. always 7 pm central)

Thanks. By expiry, I meant when is a deal deemed not eligible for the daily contest?

Let me clarify something. Your deal don't disappear from the home page upon going out of the contest. The home page displays all non-expired deals that were submitted within the time frame you select for your deals module (2 days by default) and up to the number of deals that you have configured (I think 50 is default)

As to how you can know if your deal is still participating in the contest. Here are some ways to know:

    1. A deal has blue voting background box if it hasn't participated in the contest yet. The background turns to gray after the deal runs through the daily contest

    2. You vote will be eligible for contest points if you vote within 24 hours of the deal being moderated. You will know if you voted in time by looking at the right hand side of the deal. The "Who voted" box will show eligible votes separated from non-eligible votes by a dashed line. If there is no line then all votes are eligible

Thanks Yan! That answers my question. The new change to the contest rules seems exciting! It will make it more fun and encourage early voting.
