Deal Hunting Websites Cast a Spell

submitted on November 25, 2008 by phunkeey in "Stores / Merchants"
There was an article in yesterday's New York Times about several new websites, like Typo Bay and Typo Buddy, that help bargain hunters search for deals on ebay by exploiting misspelled postings. The idea is these postings attract less hits and thus less bids meaning you can get deals on items from companies with hard-to-spell names like Abercrombie & Fitch or Banana Republic.

Check it out:

Here is another similar site and a cool story about somebody nearly banking 0.5 million dollars because of a spelling error in eBay auction:

I've been the beneficiary of typos and mislabeled items on E-Bay while bidding, although nothing as extreme as a 1/2 Million dollars.

So its possible to save a few bucks, but I would not going about making a living at trying to find them.
