Customer Service Complaints About Conn's

Has anyone made a purchase at Conn's, and can you share any information about your experience?

This is an appliance and electronics retailer with locations in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Since becoming a publicly traded company in 2003 the company grew rapidly and now also has subsidiary companies that provide service, distribution, financing, insurance and other related services. There have been many complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau and the Texas state attorney general over their "deceptive business practices" and failure to provide service under extended warranties sold by them.

We bought a refrigerator from them when we first moved to TX almost 7 years ago and bought our first house. The sales person was annoying in a used-car-salesman-kind-of-way. He kept insisting that we needed warranties or why not get a tv, chair, etc for our new house. I guess he was looking for a commission. We just got the fridge. They came over and installed the fridge and left. Then we went out to grab a bite to eat and when we got home, our house was flooded. They had improperly hooked up the water line for the ice maker and water poured out of the new fridge for a little over an hour. We called Conn's customer service line and our sales guy, both told us they were not responsible and that it was the refrigerator itself. We got very lucky because the customer service people at Fridgidare were much more accommodating and sent out a customer service person to look at the damage and give us a check to replace the floors that were damaged in our house.

Some of those complaints were really bad. I would never shop with them again. They seriously are only after your money. There are a bunch of Conn's stores in my area and I don't know a single person who would shop there.

Makes you think, "what's in a name?" I don't think there are Conn's in Florida, but the name of the store just turns me off.

I don't have a Conn's near me, but have Value City Furniture which has about the same kinds of reputaion. Makes me wonder how these places stay in business so long.

I purchased a front loader washer & dryer and paid cash for it. I was going to have my brother pick them up and deliver it to me, but instead the sale rep. told me that I can have them delivered for free with my rebate, which they declined my rebate, because the sales person gave me the wrong rebate form. How convenient for them. They can't even honor a rebate. I will never ever do business with them again. That just proves how dishonest this company really is.
