Contest Wars [Episode VI]: Return of the Editor’s Pick
submitted on August 17, 2010 by Solstice in "Buxr Website / Contests", last updated 197 days ago by Solstice
A short time from now, in a Internet shopping community not so far away…
The Editor’s Pick will be returning to Buxr!
What is this “Editors Pick” thing you ask, well I’ll tell you.
Many of you may not remember since we have a lot of new faces on Buxr, but back in the day Buxr use to have an “Editor’s Pick”, where Admin would choose one of the deals out of all the submitted deals to take one of the contest slots for the Daily Contest.
Why would Admin do such a thing you ask, well I have that answer as well.
Frankly, we are bored and really have nothing better to do. All of the Admin love to edits deals, but its just not fulfilling enough to sustain our meager existence. Additionally, we need an excuse to justify eating an entire bag of Cheese Puffs in front of the computer, and this will provide it for us as we pour over the various submissions for that contest period.
Sometimes Admin see a deal that somehow got overlooked even though it was incredibly awesome or just a decent offer in general. The causes of such an occurrence are beyond the understanding of mortal men and women, but not beyond Admin ability to influence and change. Just like in Quantum Leap, we are going back to “put right what once went wrong”… while conveniently eating our Cheese Puffs hoard before they all go stale.
It will also add a bit of flair and unexpected fun to the contests to liven things up a bit every so often. Besides, who doesn’t love surprises?
How often will the Editor’s Pick happen? Yup, got that answer too.
Not necessarily every day, but sometimes it will happen for days in a row. Occasionally, Admin won’t see a deal that catches their eye, or they might be sleeping off their most recent Cheese Puff eating binge. There may even be days in a row where we don’t pick something since we might have run out of Cheese Puffs.
What kind of deal offers might the editors pick? Can’t really answer that one, but here you go anyway.
It could anything for any reason that happens to wander into our Cheese Puff delirium induced minds. It could be a coupon, product, or sale. It could be something that is just really cool and unique, or it might be an offer that just does not come up to often. Heck, we may just decide we want to be nice to a new member, or want to let an older member know that we missed them. Sorry, but some things in life can’t be answered ahead of time.
Keep in mind that votes may have nothing to do with what gets picked, and we might even pick something that does not have any votes on it. However, points being handed out for having voted on a Daily Prize winner will still apply.
So who is doing this whole picking business anyway? Oh, so you want to know who to blame then.
Were sneaky, and you won’t be able to blame any one Admin. Every admin submits a few suggestions if they feel inclined, and if there is an agreement for something being worthy of an Editors Pick, then it will happen. This also means you can’t bribe one of us with illicit offerings of Cheese Puffs.
Can I take a regular prize slot and also get an Editor’s Pick? I knew you were going to ask that question.
No. The maximum of one Daily Contest prize win per day will remain in effect.
If we choose a submission of yours to be an Editor’s Pick, and you were already going to win a Daily Prize anyway, then the Editor’s Pick will take precedence and be given the Daily contest win instead.
Might I not get a Daily Prize because of the Editor’s Pick? Its all about me, me, me, isn’t it.
Yes. This is where the flair and fun unpredictability comes into play. If there is an Editor’s Pick that day, this means its possible that one of the Daily Prize spots will be taken up by it, and somebody might get bumped. Yes, everybody loves to be picked but nobody likes to be bumped. That’s just how it goes, but it is all in good fun, and we need our viable excuse to purchase and eat all those Cheese Puffs.
I don’t want to win a Daily Prize because of an Editor’s Pick? Hey, we can accommodate everybody.
There are two ways you can ensure your deal does not get chosen as an Editors Pick.
The first is to have an overly short or generally lacking description in your post. We need some quality reading material to browse through while ingesting our cheesy poofs, and we love to read through product details, serious descriptions of coupons, and explanations of what comprises a sale.
The second way is to forget to attach an exact match PriceGrabber comparison on a product when it is offered. We want to know how much money we are saving so we can figure out how much money we can spend on cheesy puffs now.
