New Coinstar kiosks will exchange gift cards for cash

submitted on April 16, 2014 by HouTex in "Sales / Promotions", last updated on April 26, 2014 by YanBz
Has anybody tried this? I received an email from Coinstar telling me that I can now exchange gift cards for cash. I was wondering if they give full value, but I don't see that information posted anywhere on their site.
Here's the list of gift cards they accept - https://www.coinstar.com/coinstarexchange

These kiosks are different from the coin exchange ones, and so far I have only found them at Jewel Osco (Chicago area) and Acme (Philadelphia). They obviously don't know where I am, because there are none of these new exchange kiosks in my area yet.
Here's a locator tool - https://www.coinstar.com/Kiosk.....earch=true

I like this idea better than Coinstar's original business model. I like rolling change and couldn't imagine having to pay out a portion on every dollar to get cash for coins(I think it's 0.08/$1 for coinstar). However, I would use Coinstar to get cash for a gift card I would never ever use, as long as the exchange rate was fair.

Can you buy electronics with an IHOP gift card? Movie tickets with a Cheesecake Factory gift card? A delicious Mexican meal with a Sports Authority card? No. No, you can't. As one man humorously discovers firsthand.

Instantly Exchange gift cards for cash at any bright yellow Coinstar Exchange kiosk, available at select supermarkets. Find a kiosk at Coinstar.com.
