Candy "nutrition" info

submitted on October 25, 2011 by equipurple in "Products / Gadgets"
With Halloween upon us, let's take a look at the "nutrition" info on a host of the candy bars that our kids will be bringing home.

Here is one blog listing with sortable tables

there really is no "healthy" candy. There's more just "bad" and "slightly less bad."

Most calories per serving: 280 Twix, Snickers, 5th Avenue
Most fat: 17g Mr. Goodbar
Most saturated fat: 11g Twix
Most sugar: 47g Skittles

Good reminder, equipurple! Some non-candy substitutes might include age-appropriate inexpensive toys, like:

•Glow-in-the-dark insects, spooky fingers, rubber worms, spiders, or other creepy figures
    •Halloween-themed stickers and temporary tattoos
•Chalk, crayons, colored pencils, pens or animal-shaped erasers
•Non-Halloween-themed party favors such as hair clips, hair bands, scrunchies, plastic bracelets and rings (for girls) or engine whistles, key chains, pens, and stickers (for boys or girls).

A study from Yale University last year revealed that half of the 284 trick-or-treaters they surveyed between the ages 3 to 14 actually preferred toys or Halloween-themed stickers and pencils over lollipops, fruit-flavored chews, or hard candies.

Healthy food treats might include small, pre-packaged:
•Almonds or walnuts (Stay away from peanuts since some children are allergic to them.)
    •Shelled sunflower seeds or pistachios
•Raisins (Although these are high in natural sugar, they're still better than candy.)
    •Bottled water

There's also an organic and natural candy made by Surf Sweets, found at these stores -

I ate a whole bag of the Halloween White Chocolate & Candy Corn M&M's in two days. I shouldn't have looked at the Nutrition but boy were they good!

Of course! The flavor is in the calories! Amused Roll Eyes
Besides, they're not too bad (low sodium, a little fiber),
and chocolate does have a few redeeming qualities. Big Grin

Why is "junk" food always cheaper? Evil

Because healthier ingredients are more expensive than less healthy ones
