Buying online - Helping Buxr become the best

submitted on August 10, 2010 by DebsFreebies in "Member's Lounge"
Buxr members post some of the greatest deals to be found on the web!

As Yan shows on Probargainhunter ( http://probargainhunter.com/20.....july-2010/ ) Buxr is listed #31 for popular deal sites. Unacceptable! We're better than that!

We make Buxr what it is. Tell your friends. Tweet about it. Post it on Facebook.

Another important thing you can do is go through Buxr when you are shopping! If you see a deal and want to buy, check Buxr first! Look for the coupons, do a search....

What have you purchased through Buxr?

I swapped out the link. Thank you, Deb for your inspiring discussion.

I try not to talk much about money. A project will never be a success if you start it with profits in mind. I am a programmer obsessed with bargain hunting and I started Buxr because I felt I could make a difference if I bring my computer knowledge to the deals world.

Even at #31 I consider Buxr a success and I am thankful to you guys for doing your part. The past 2 years have been a great experience for me. For once, I finally found what I love to do in my life even though it doesn't pay my bills yet. Smile I am really looking forward to see what Buxr becomes in 2 more years from now.

I would say - it's the youngest website (started 2007) to be featured in the TOP 32 list Big Grin

If you give people what they want/need as well as do what you love, the money will come. We can all do our part by posting great deals, searching for the best we can find and if we shop, do it through Buxr!

I just wanted to remind everyone to utilize Buxr for more than just posting deals Smile

Maybe we can continue to add value to the site with substantive comments on the deals, as previously suggested by orangearrows. If any of us can add information about each product if we've purchased it, it would assist shoppers to make an informed decision. Or could we add a designated reviews section? Many of our members have extensive experience with certain items, like computer-related products, and the rest of us (as well as visitors to the site) would benefit from their expertise.

So, I see our task as three-fold -- first to attract new visitors, and second to hold their interest (even make Buxr addicts out of them!) with accurate and useful deals and information, so that (in the third place) they shop regularly through Buxr. Artistic

I think that's a great idea. I think it's really important that everyone be welcoming and encouraging and helpful to new members.

As for the comments, I've asked some questions on some deals and never got responses. For example, I was thinking of buying a new printer (remember the ink issue I had a couple days ago?), and someone had posted a deal on a printer, but no one ever responded. I think that there should be an option to get some sort of notification -- e-mail maybe? or a Notifications tab -- if someone comments on your deals or responds to your comments on your deals or others'. Comments are easy to miss and I don't think it's enough to check the My Activity tab (which only tells you if comments are made on your deals

Also, another suggestion: sometimes there are deals that have comments re: problems that it had in the moderation queue. I think those should be deleted as soon as the deal is fixed and approved. That way, if someone asks a question about the actual deal or makes a comment, they're not daunted or overshadowed by the problem comments.

This might help with the printer issue. http://www.buxr.com/topic/need.....ng+printer I had the same problem a while back and still love the one I picked.

One advantage to leaving the comments about the issues in queue is that it helps other Buxrians in their deal submission. I know I've learned a lot on the mistakes I've made and found out in comments, as well as learned from the comments made on other people's deals.

It would be nice though if there was a way to "turn off" those comments for visitors. That way members could see them to help out but visitors would only see comments about the product.

It is not hard to hide (for visitors) the comment left before the deal was activated. I am concerned however that the comments left after the deal is active will often be a logical continuation of those left before and so hiding the beginning of the discussion will make the ending meaningless (to the visitors).

Well, before I became a member not too long ago and started posting deals, I was a lurker and would notice that there were comments on problems on the deals that were irrelevant to the deal itself, i.e. the code wasn't working, the image was wrong, the link was bad, there was no description, etc. I remember feeling a bit overwhelmed.

I think those sorts of comments should be hidden after approval because they 1) would have been resolved by then and 2) don't help shoppers decide whether or not they want to get that particular product or shop that sale. And on a personal note, as a perfectionist by nature, not sure if I would want other people seeing all the mistakes I made submitting a deal! Confused

Those sorts of problems do help us Buxrians (love that word) in improving our deals, but I think this site should cater to shoppers in general, not just the community.

I love your comment, Houtex! You are right. I just want (as do most of us) see Buxr be better than the "next" site...I want Buxr to get on up there. Comments would not only help others but keep in mind, it helps those that make the comments, as well.
