Buxr Review + $50 Amazon GC giveaway!

submitted on February 4, 2010 by YanBz in "Buxr Website / Contests"
Buxr got reviewed by Shawanda at a blog with a very long name: YouHaveMoreThanYouThink.com

Love the criticism:

The method for determining monthly prizes is based on an overly complicated point system. My attention span only gets shorter as I get older. I blame the internets. I tried to understand as much as I could mentally suffer before moving on to harvest my FarmVille crops.

I have always felt we have somewhat overdone with the monthly contests. Smile

There is a Amazon $50 Gift Card give away at the end with 4 ways to enter. #3 is for new sign ups only, but #1, #2, and #4 will work for you guys. Good luck!

Deals are submitted by users, so it’s possible some of them are bogus. This doesn’t only apply to Buxr. It’s pretty much the case for any web site with user generated content. Although submissions must be approved by a moderator or Buxr member, you can never be 100% assured of the legitimacy of every single deal.

Hey now, I thought we do an awesome job! This hurts my feelings Cry

I wish there would be more comments on the deals people submit. Sometimes it helps to decide if a product/ deal is a good one or not. Votes are not always trustworthy about the quality of a product.

Looking at other sites, the comments are generally worthless for judging quality or value. And add the awful bloat of signatures and flamboyant avatars and they are unreadable.

Would disagree on that. Deal comments have always saved me money with people pitching in with coupons and other money saving techniques which the OP might have missed. Also have helped me in clearing doubts or other questions regarding the product.
Plus always good to get a review from a person who might have used the product.

I feel user comments/opinions/feedback on deals is something missing from BUXR.

I disagree with those comments, because the deals are tested for validity here, and that is the primary reason I believe that Buxr is a better site. Bogus deals are removed, and expired deals are accurately flagged because the community continues to monitor them. Many other sites post unsubstantiated claims or bad links and never flag expired deals even when multiple comments indicate that they are.

It's disappointing that the review is so superficial, but may simply be a result of the reviewer's short exposure to the Buxr community. Newcomers in the past may have found the rules a little confusing, but the new wiki should go a long way toward explaining things more fully.

And, if the end result is that more people will come over to join up and try it out, then it's true that all publicity is good as long as they spell your name right.

I can see this viewpoint as the monthly contests used to be incredibly easy to follow, but have grown more complicated with time. This partially occurred to inhibit "gaming" of the contest. However, I have wondered if these complications turn away would be active members.

This was an overly harsh statement, but also has some validity with regards to our Power User submissions. In some cases I think Power Users are taking advantage of their ability to submit deals without moderation, being careless with accuracy, or even submitting offers of a highly dubious nature.
(Accuracy is appreciated from non-Power User submitters as well.)

Critique of the Critique Big Grin
    1. Why would I want to leave my personal e-mail in a comment, even one of my dump e-mail addresses I don't care about. Little nasty bots exist on the web that do nothing but search for and collect posted e-mail addresses to Spam the heck out of people.
(It sounds like the comment might be required, but I could be wrong.)

    2. Woot is not really a direct competitor, as they are a "one deal a day" site.

    3. Can non-members really not sort the main page listings? If that is the case its a good point.
(I'm too lazy to sign out and check, as I have to go investigate this FarmVille thing.)

    4. Community members sharing valuable information about a deal that is not included is something that I think Buxr is one of the better sites at doing, especially with the flagging system in place, but I also wish more people would leave constructive comments. Like what is good or bad about the product, and so on, provided they have actual personal experience with the product. People saying "sweet deal" is all fine and dandy, but it does not really expand on the offer in any way, and does not really provide more info for the shopper. They will have their own opinion of a deal in any case, but can always use more information about it.
