Butterball Reports Shortage of Fresh Turkeys Over 16 Pounds (Take a Poll)

submitted on November 18, 2013 by HouTex in "Products / Gadgets"
This news is really true, but it sure feels like sales hype and they're saying there's "no need to panic." Normally only about 15% of shoppers buy large fresh turkeys for Thanksgiving. Butterball says there will only be half the number of fresh turkeys over 16 pounds available this year, and of course there are other brands to buy. The usual number of Butterball frozen turkeys under 16 pounds are still available, and that takes care of 85% of sales.

    A "Turkey Talk-Line" LOL?
I prefer fresh. And I prefer a turkey UNDER 16 lbs., like the size of a large chicken.
They're hard to find sometimes-I usually have to get one from an organic/free range place.
However, the chicken-sized turkeys are great because they fit nice and neatly in my roasting oven; they cook quickly; and I don't have to deal with so many leftovers that nobody seems to want anyway. Big Grin

Oh good! I have to buy my turkey later today and don't care about the price at this point... just want to make sure I have a bird on the table this Thursday. Big Grin
