Same thing with me. All the Blockbusters in town moved out long ago. There are a few of those Redbox type things but they are all located in gas stations in bad neighborhoods so I don't go near them. It doesn't surprise me that they are going bankrupt.

Thought I'd add this information that arrived in my inbox today. My local Blockbuster store was never a preference but the express box was because the selection they carry over the local Red Box is so much better.

The local Blockbuster Express is a separate entity and they are making sure customers are aware they are not affected by this change.

I used to do the Blockbuster thing but found I enjoyed Netflix more when that became available. Still can't believe they're closing. It was definitely a long time coming with on-line streaming, Netflix, RedBox, etc, etc.

Blockbuster will close 182 more locations soon.
Blockbuster has already closed more than 1,000 underperforming stores in the past two years. It had about 3,000 stores when it entered bankruptcy protection.

Blockbuster has requested several extensions to file their reorganization plan. They had previously negotiated an extension to December 15, and now will have until January 14 to file and until February 11, 2011 to obtain court approval of the plan.

I'm not surprised. Not too smart to raise prices when you're a struggling company.
