According to a recent report, the folks at RadioShack are looking to either sell themselves off to the highest bidder or find another retailer to merge with. Among the companies being discussed, the one getting the most attention is Best Buy.
Radio Shack's profits have taken a beating from wireless carriers. But Best Buy and Radio Shack combined would have significantly more pull, and would be able to dictate better terms—for themselves. Whether you'd see any of those savings is up in the air, but since (now that Circuit City's dead and buried) Best Buy's biggest competition is cut-rate operations like Walmart and Amazon, chances are you would.
Personally I dislike Radioshack and only go there if there is something cheap electronic (adapters) I need Walmart doesn't carry and its not worth my time to drive to the next town to get them.
Best Buy is not my favorite but I do not go out of my way to avoid them like I do Radioshack. I just stay away from Geek Squad and am generally OK, as I know what most electronics actually cost at competition so what is a rip off (HDMI cables for example) and where they have deals. The workers here in my area are generally laid back and not pushy at all.
