Best cheap home alarm monitoring company? Permalink

submitted 282 days ago by YanBz in "Stores / Merchants"
We just had a home break in reported in our neighborhood. This is third case in the past year and so we are seriously looking at installing a home security system. ADT would be too expensive, so I am trying to find something I can buy off the shelf and then install myself to hook up to a third party alarm monitoring service. I am pretty sure I can find a good system since it is fairly easy to compare those based on features. Choosing a provider of monitoring service is a whole different story.

So far I can't find something that has good customer reviews and is inexpensive ( ~$10 /month ) at the same time. Even finding a reliable source of reviews is a challenge. Does anyone know a website that would be a good source? Something like yelp.com for restaurants... Or, maybe someone is using a company like that, please share your experience!

We are looking for something like this also, but for the infrared security camera so we can view activity at both homes East & West coast via the internet.

Well, other benefits aside, the dog will probably end up costing more than a security system, especially considering that to be an effective burglar deterrent it will have to be a BIG dog.

Buy a large dog chain with a collar with the spikes coming out of it. Get one of those things that you screw in to the ground and keep it in your yard by your front door. They might think twice if they see that! Get one for the backyard too! Big Grin

Yan, check out this discussion I posted some time ago. May be the "cheap" version of what you are looking for.

I'm looking for a cost effective monitoring system that has a wireless camera and stand alone monitor. Any ideas? Most I've found want around $200 for what appears to be a simple system.

What is the purpose of the system? Do you want to monitor a house remotely, or is it more like a baby monitor? Did you check out the link to the topic shawndiaz posted earlier?

My understanding is that you can save if you do it yourself, however you need to have the time and skills to put things together.

My large doberman does a wonderful job. He stays stealthy and silent until the true need for an alarm is present.
