Being nice has its rewards...

Lately Ive noticed that some of our fellow members have been really negative with their comments. Its not appreciated, at least by myself, and it really brings some bad vibes into the whole trying to have fun while deal searching.

Please leave the negativity and clearly snide comments for other more deserving matters, and help keep the fun alive on Buxr.

Thats it, thought I'd keep it brief and to the point this time.

That's why I'd like to see it where if you vote down you don't have to make a comment. To me, that's encouraging negative comments in a sense.

That was not exactly what I was referencing, as I think it makes a certain degree of sense that someone should have to comment when voting down. It helps to explain their reasoning, which I think is nice to know, and sometimes it helps me determine the value of the deal.

What I meant by "negative" is when some members jump on people after having voted something down, even when they give good reasoning for their vote. Also there have been other comments of a negative nature after something has been flagged, because the poster forgot to mention an important aspect to the deal, and then the poster gets snide in response despite their own error.

Those are more the negative comments that I was talking about.

Good points Solstice. I think a lot of the negativity is a result of the contest and the point system. We have tried to combat this as best we can, but it is an unfortunate dark side of rewarding visitors for contributing.

That gives me an idea. Comments should have the yellow alert sign ( http://www.buxr.com/images/error.png ) so that if a user is rude or out of order, their comment can be reported.

Though, that would call for a rules/guidelines to be created and so forth.

I should add that I'm not totally exempt from my observation, as in the past I done some of the same things. However, since then I've made a concerted effort to reform my ways of commenting, and I would like to see a few other members join me on that.

I've reviving this thread before things get out of hand again.

There is no reason to attack or pick at fellow members.

People use multiple reasons when voting, those reasons may even include looking at the way a member chooses to conduct themselves. Being mean, snide, or generally unpleasant probably won't help a person's case at all.

Is this a deal site or a social network? I thought we were supposed to be voting on the best deals of the day. I am not being snide or mean, I am merely pointing out the obvious. The same people win day in and day out and it rotates being a certain group of friends. I have no ill feeling towards anyone and am not picking on anyone. So times the truth hurts when it is pointed out. I know this kills my chances of ever winning again and if that is the case, so be it. I have never run from the truth and never will. I have been a loyal user of CSB for many years and joined here cause Mike asked his loyal users to and a bunch of us did. I have enjoyed Buxr since I got here, but the collusion has gotten out of hand. I am sorry, if I am offending those that are benefiting from their voting block, but this is merely my take on what I have seen. Again, I thought we were supposed to votes on the days best deals.

To quote the How it Works tutorial:

How does our daily contest work?

* You find and submit hot shopping deals
* At the end of each day we pick the best and the worst deal.

No where in there does it say anything about voting on how users conduct themselves nor does it say vote for the people that vote on other deals. But, if this is the way the founders have decided we should conduct ourselves, I will be the first to apologize for my mistake on thinking we were supposed to vote for the days best deals and start voting on a user's conduct and demeanor.

I'm not looking for a social network, just a outlet for fun and saving a buck, and both are important to me here. But if someone is going to act like a schmuck, and take some of the fun away, then I see no reason to encourage their presence. Sorry, but I disagree with you, and I see your observation as a matter of opinion more than an absolute truth for all, much as my own opinion is not the absolute truth either. Also, if there is a voting bloc in my favor I guess I have not gotten the memo, and doing well in the contest does not qualify as prima facie evidence of collusion.
