`Banks' allow members to pay with time, not cash

submitted on June 4, 2010 by tammy987 in "Member's Lounge"
I love this idea! Think it would work in your community?
In a modern twist on the ancient practice of barter, people...are joining time banks to help them get the things they need or want without having to spend cash. In a time bank, members get credit for services they provide to other members, from cooking to housekeeping to car rides to home repair. For each hour of work, one time dollar is deposited into a member's account, good for services offered by other members.

Interesting concept, reminds me of Mechanical Turk from Amazon but more "grass roots".

On a side note, tammy, please use the quote button at the top of the edit area to quote the part of your post that you copy from an article. When I read it first I couldn't figure out where was what.

I think this is a great idea. They even have one in Cali according to the article. I'm gonna have to look into this. Could be a great way to get way to get some work done on my house - maybe have an extra room built onto it That would be sweet! Big Grin

I think it's a nice concept but I bet people will abuse the system. The people that list that they can do things that are expensive normally are the ones that are going to be asked to do stuff a lot. I would think that eventually they would tire of it and leave. I could be completely wrong though.
