Hoping all of you are safe and sound, high and dry, and have electrical power.

We experienced minor problems here in my area. We lost power for the overnight hours into early afternoon, flooded basements in my neighborhood from natural underground springs and flooded yards and streets from flash flooding. Many of our neighboring towns are still in the dark. Flooding has happened in low lying areas and the local river is still rising as of now and is expected to crest later today. There has been wind damage and downed trees. I have not been out in my vehicle yet to see the damage, but will be heading to work later and see what hasn't been online or on TV.

I know we have others here in the Buxr community in harder hit areas from long ago posts about locations. I hope they all are okay!

We experienced pretty much the same here as sandyshore. Thankfully we personally did not lose power, but many in my community did. I Hope all is well with others that were in the direct path.

We really have no idea how many people are unable to communicate, and even the businesses that were affected by this storm. It was a surprise when I received this email from David's Cookies:
Due to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Davids Cookies has no electrical power. We hope to have power restored in the next few days. There will be a delay in the delivery of orders (possibly including cookie of the month shipments). We have been trying to contact customers individually who have orders in house, but our email server has been down as well.

We are sending this email message from a different location. Please use the following email account temporarily until we restore service at our offices:

We sincerely apologize for the delay and inconvenience this has caused.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    David's Cookies

I was really impressed by their efforts to let their customers know, and somehow they managed to post a message on their website as well -

PetSmart Charities sent six emergency relief vehicles, each filled with $80,000 in food and supplies, to NY to support the ASPCA's Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. PetSmart Charities expects to provide relief for 3,000-6,000 pets in need, assisting the pets and the people working to save them.

I am in Central NJ and 15 mins from Belmar, 30 mins from Pt. Pleasant, and 45 mins from Seaside Heights. We were lucky, other than no power and heat for 5 days we lost nothing. Others down the street lost trees and some landed on houses. I am just starting to see the devastation in NJ and NY.

I will see more on Monday as I work for a national charity that is very involved in the disaster relief (its not the Red Cross)
