submitted on July 14, 2009 by MikeG in "Buxr Website / Contests"
We are trying to come up with a list of the "worst deals ever" for our next blog post. These deals do not have to be on Buxr, they can be anything from the past or present, stories you've heard from friends and relatives, etc. Just make sure they are good... well bad..

To sweetin the deal, we will reward any member whose ideas we use with some cool Buxr swag and loving gratitude! Big Grin Remember we are looking for things that are interesting, outrageous or funny. You can reply to this thread with as many ideas as you like.

As an example of what we are looking for, did you spend $500 on a cutting Betamax player? Check out this old hard drive bargain we found...

At that rate my 500 GB hard drive would cost 169 million dollars!

I got burned on the iPhone. I paid $150 for a refurbished 3G just over a month before the new one came out. I thought they would do away with the 3G, and I did not anticipate the huge price drop. Technically I only lost $20 since the refurbished 16 gig 3G dropped to $129, but I could have gotten the new 3GS for only $50 more than I paid.

I'm sort of in the same boat. I upgraded to the iPhone 3g recently and I'm locked out of the 3GS upgrade. AT&T want's $600 to upgrade to 3GS.

The 3GS is faster, has a compass, and a better camera that can take video. Am I missing something? In a year and a half I'll get an even more awesome one. I can wait.

You could both add an extra phone line to your plan and only pay $10 more a month.

Well I once ordered a "free sample" of a mini notepad. Approximately 1 week later I was sent 250 mini note pads along with an invoice that said complimentary of some company, (I can't remember the name at the moment). Well then about a week after that I received a bill that said I owed around $120 for all these notebooks, when all I wanted was a "free sample" to begin with. After calling the company I got nowhere and was told that if I didn't pay up that I would have to pay an interest rate and a flt rate fee of $3 extra per month I was late. That made me think twice about ordering "free samples" from unknown websites anymore. I wonder how many other people got burned on this deal. This company's website was no longer up when I looked about 6 months ago though, so maybe (hopefully) they went bankrupt.

That sounds terrible.. What a bad freebie experience. I usually only apply to the free magazine offers, and have always had a good experience.. Now if I only had time to read them! Smile

I also purchased a pioneer home entertainment system which included a dvd recorder/dvr, receiver and 5 surround speakers from walmart a few years back for just under $500. About 4-5 weeks later, the price droppped to $348 then another week later to $250 on clearance. Had I just waited a month and a half I would've gotten it for half price but oh well. I still have it at least and it's awesome.

50% in a month is pretty bad... At least it's not as bad as the people who rushed out and paid 5 to 10 grand for a plasma tv.

Oh yea really. I paid $1200 for mine about 2 years ago and the same tv is about $600-$700 now but I don't regret it. Everyone loved our tv and it made my husband feel cool for a bit so it was worth it I guess.

We're all getting taken to the cleaners by the cell phone companies. Text messages cost 61 million times as much as email and Verizon alone makes 850 million dollars a year just for the 15 seconds we spend listening to the recorded message for voice mail: "Press 1 if you've been ripped off. . . "
