American Airlines files for bankruptcy protection

The airline said it and its regional affiliate American Eagle would continue to operate as usual, fly their normal schedules, honor reservations and make exchanges and refunds.

And the Washington Post http://www.washingtonpost.com/....._local_pop reports that

The airline said that operations would continue, that all flights would depart on schedule and that frequent-flier miles would be honored.

Like they said on TV last night, American Airlines has 4 BILLION in cash! They are just filing bankruptcy so they can stop paying the pension costs. The federal pension fund guarantee corp. will get stuck paying the pensions now. Corporate welfare gone wild. Thats all we need is to add to the debts the US already owes.
