Amazon Prime $7.99 a Month - Monthly Option Has Been Removed

submitted on November 13, 2012 by steve_05 in "Sales / Promotions", last updated on November 27, 2012 by HouTex
UPDATE: The offer now states one option - "After your free trial, Amazon Prime is just $79/year."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Amazon is currently offering "Prime" for only $7.99 a month (usually $79 a year). Not sure if this is for everyone or a select few.
Go to Amazon and click "Join Prime" which is next to your sign in tab. Then you should see "Start your free 1 month trial, After your free trial, Amazon Prime is just $7.99/month
    According to this article - http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023.....rime-plan/ -
    Amazon's decision to offer a month-to-month offer puts it in direct competition with its chief rivals in the online-streaming business, Hulu and Netflix. Both of those companies charge customers $7.99 per month for access to their streaming libraries.
    So you have a choice of the new month-to-month service, or the still-available $79 per year.
    You get the free 1-month trial with either one.
    $95.88 compared to $79/year I think I would go with the $79/year.
    Yeah, I thought the same thing. $7.99 is not really cheaper. Even if you put the money in savings you still cannot make up the difference (given how little banks pay these days).
    If you're a frequent Amazon shopper, then the $79 a year deal is much better. But, I only use them during the Holidays and with one month being free and the other $7.99, all my Amazon shopping gets shipped for a mere $8-
    The $79 is a way better deal but not all of us can always come up with it at once. Having the option to go monthly is really nice. I was wondering if I was going to be able to afford the lump sum in March when mine runs out but now I know I can just go monthly until I can afford the $79. Thanks for the heads up!
    Speaking from a woman whom has been on Amazon Prime for year snow it is THE best choice i ever made. I have saved so much money with free shipping free kindle ebooks, free clips and full uncut movies. Also, on prime you dont have the 25 dollar threshhold in order to ship free. I order alot of bulk grocery and home items no taxand free shipping. I also use my ecoupons. These are the same ones like in the paper. Amazon offers these all the time. Try it. You will love it.
    I just learned about this yesterday when I logged in (I usually use their mobile site, so I got the news late.)
    I was on the fence about trying it, but I am so going for it now.
    Thanks for the info guys! Smile
    Amazon took down the $7.99 option Evil and from what I have read any one who signed up for it will have it expire after the first month.
      Well that's pretty lousy on their part. I guess adding it before the holidays wasn't the smartest move though.
      Has anyone else seen the option to get your stuff slower but get a promotional credit for it? I'm on Prime and I'm curious if this is a prime only thing. For instance I bought something 2 day Prime eligible and it gave me an option to get the item in 5-7 days instead and a $1 promo credit for Amazon video.
    Oh no! I just signed up a few days ago for the 1 month trial service.
    Are they getting rid of just the 7.99 monthly option, or are they getting rid of Prime altogether where you pay annually as well?
      The only option after the 1-month free trial is to pay by the year, they have removed only the monthly offer.
    Oh, OK, thank goodness! I thought they were starting to phase out Amazon Prime completely.
    It's nice to automatically get free 2-day shipping on just about everything from Amazon. I saved $23.94 already on Sunday. This is totally worth it. Smile
    Have you considered "sharing" Prime shipping with four friends to cut the cost down to $16 per year instead of $79? This is perfectly kosher...it's in the Amazon help file and I called customer service to confirm that it's legal and ok with them, and it is.
