Today Amazon launched their new marketplace for handmade goods, just in time for holiday shopping. They even sent targeted emails back in May 2015 to recruit select Etsy sellers. While Etsy fees are smaller (only 3.5%), Amazon's 12% commission includes discounted shipping, marketing and payment processing.
At launch, Amazon "Handmade" lists more than 80,000 products offered by more than 5,000 artisans from 60 countries. The store allows only products “made entirely by hand, hand-altered, or hand assembled” and excludes anything mass-produced or resold.
