I should have brought up this question long time ago but I just never took the time. It is better later than never and so here it goes.
First of all, let me explain how Buxr makes money. The way we do it is by signing affiliate agreements with merchants and by receiving a small commission each time somebody buys stuff online using Buxr links. We do not receive commission if no online transaction is involved (printable coupons or freebies) or if we have not agreement with the merchant.
For the affiliated merchant to know it was us who sent them customer we have to convert the links you submit into a certain format. This is why sometimes you will notice the 'Redirecting' message when you click on deals and the final page URL may turn out to be different from what you submit.
On some rare occasions the conversion will fail and the redirect will not work properly (you will either get to the store front or to some weird page on the merchant website). For example this sometimes happens with Walmart and Staples. If you see something like it, please flag the deal as 'bad link' and we will try to fix it.
You can always find the original link submitted by the member if you go to the Deal History (click on the small 'blank page' icon to the right of the deal title) and look for the
Deal URL attribute. Also, feel free to use that attribute if you don't feel like going via our affiliate links for buying things. We can hardly imagine why this would be the case, but we want you to know that you have this option.
Before you swamp us with your questions, let me answer some you probably have in mind:
Q. How much is the commission?
A. It varies from merchant to merchant and is usually between 1-5% of the item price
Q. Are all links converted?
A. No, only a small fraction of the merchants is affiliated.
Q. Why can't I post affiliate links?
A. Well, if you do then we might ask you to cover some of our expenses. How about this month contest prizes?
