A comment about admins & a question about rules

submitted on June 1, 2010 by lexx575 in "Buxr Website / Contests"
There are 2 things that I would like to mention. The first one is about admins. There is a particular admin that is out to get users instead of showing them the right way of contributing to the site. I am not going to mention that admin but I think everyone knows who he/she is. It looks like to me that this admin only helps out, or acts better towards higher level people then beginners. I think that is the wrong way to handle things if the site wants more people to join. The second thing is that I don't understand the rules. I am not here for the $$$ but was wondering why my whey protein was disqualified from the contest. Thank you.

Lexx, regarding your second question. Whey Protein deal ran on May 30 together with 6 more deals. One of those deals was a freebie that earned more votes - in particular Insect Repellent submitted by webbyone2010. Here is the link:

It earned 14 votes (compared to yours 11) and thus was awarded a prize. We only award one freebie prize per day according to our rules and so your freebie didn't pass. I always mention if there is a freebie that was disqualified in the comments daily contest results on this page:

As to your other comments, all I can say is that if you have any specific questions or concerns then send me an email (or post them here) and I will look into what happened. Statements like "is out to get users" don't make justice to the people you accuse if you don't provide details.

Hi lexx575, I would like to offer you some information regarding the deal you mentioned and deals in general from the perspective of a participant, in the hopes that it will help you understand. First of all, did you know that the contest period for daily prizes is the first 24 hours? After that, votes on any deal can continue to accumulate, but no longer count for the daily prize.

I took a look at the history of your specific deal at . You can do that yourself by clicking on the little icon beside the title that looks like a page with lines of text on it. What I'm seeing there is that an admin added "Free Sample" to your title, which is good for more clarity. And then, after the 24 hour period passed, it was removed from the contest (as are all the deals). There is only one freebie prize awarded per day, so when there is another freebie that earns more votes, it cannot also win a prize. In effect, the freebie contest is for one per day, unrelated to the other winners. I hope this information helps.

I'd like to add one more thing. When I was a newcomer, I needed more help from admins to get my deals posted correctly, and I think that is probably true for just about everyone. As time passed, I asked questions and observed other deal submissions, so I think I learned the system better and made less mistakes in the submission form. Also, I think when an admin edits my deal title to make it easier to read or understand, that can make my deal better presented. So if your deal has errors, no one is "out to get you." They are just trying to help you get the details or the format right. The admins have a lot more work to fix the deals that have errors, and no one would have to edit the deals that are accurate to begin with. So it's worth a little extra time to fill the form carefully and avoid those errors.

Lex, I know I'll face retribution for comments but it couldn't be any worse than right. I agree w/you. I don't think they're out to "get you" but do feel I'm being forced off. There's absolute favoritism for powerusers. They post as many deals as they wish w/o regection. Similar deals I'M told are "too complex" & to post as Disc Topics (that noone looks or votes) even though a so-call "complex" deal got 9 votes & 3 stars in pop. 4 deals were rej. in hrs & I was told to post. What a waste! The Wiki states if you think it's a good deal then submit it! That never happens to powerusers. Admin. even helps by finding addl. codes for THEIR deals. I've been dealing for yrs. since I've been wheelchair bound from MS. I'm still made fun of & called names by so-called elite powerusers. There are unwritten rules only THEY know, THEY make up as THEY go along. BUXR might lose a valuable contributer as I've many major store insiders & online coders. Last yr I figured a way to look at all Sun.'s flyers on Sat. I think that's why they've rej. my CVS, Wal, Target freebies. Powerusers don't like this adv. They only want to see their & their friends names in winners box-not newbie. I've emailed admin. many times w/ques that go unanswered. I hope it gets better or...

Who is it that has done all this stuff?

No one dislikes or is jealous that you can look at stuff early. Your deals get rejected because you can't verify them. If there is no proof that what you say is true then it can't be posted.

As for powerusers being able to post more. This is a right you have to earn. Once you prove that you can post deals properly and get a long with the community, then you might get promoted.

I don't think you are being forced off. Everyone keeps telling me to give you the benefit of the doubt which usually I'm good for doing. But you know what, I think you need to give us the benefit of the doubt. None of us are just out to ruin you or force you out. You just need to listen to us as we try to help you. Rather than argue with us nonstop, why not try to actually understand why we say things. I have a lot more I would like to say but I just can't right now. This whole situation is driving me crazy.

Nah, the beauty of an open forum is it allows for the airing of grievances, like Festivus.

Let the newbies and powerusers say what they have to say, that is what this is here for.

We were all newbies at one point too. Plus these arguments are not new, they have been stated time and again by many different people.

Powerusers have an unfair advantage (disagree)
Voting Blocks (agree, but it is the nature of the beast)
Not wanting newbies to win (50/50, I think there are those like me who don't care and others that will do anything to win, including cheat. Those members have been caught and banished)

Again this is not new to the forums.

So newbies, powerusers and those in between vent away, but in the end "Can't we all get along?" - Rodney King

In all honesty and with no offense intended, as a fellow webmaster/administrator; this grievance should have been taken up privately with Yan or Mike.
