A change to daily contest rules (deal votes & points)

No, you need to wait 15 days for your deal votes to have affect on the contest.

You reply discouraged me, eligibles will think when my vote is of no use they will not waste their vote on my deals. But may be I m wrong. Let's see.

I don't think this will hurt anyone, Bemicmom is still active in the contest and is gaining points and learning the ropes and is still capable of winning prizes. It's her votes for us it changes until she hits 250 and 30 days. I don't see it as hurting her, unless I'm misunderstanding something.

Might deter newbies (impatient ones). The idea is good but the implementation part has the potential for some tweaking.

The only thing hurting is I won't able to vote and won't get points by voting others best deals.
Good deals if I post should get eligible votes I suppose.

You are right, I didn't consider the points for voting up good deals. I hope you aren't too discouraged by the change. I've enjoyed seeing your deals and what you are bringing to Buxr. I understand Admins reason, it does seem it has had an impact on you in particular due to timing.

My voting on this will not give you any point but still I want to do.

But voting for another person does give you points , right? I mean say if the deal was deal of the day you do get credit for it.

No, these votes are off contest meaning they do not give contest points to either the deal submitter or the voting member. The only way a new member can gain points is via posting useful comments that get votes from old timers, or by posting hot deals that win daily contest.

So it means that members have to post discussions or deals to gain points?

Post discussions, deals, or just make comments. Don't forget that each comment can be voted up and each vote will bring the author a point.

Again ...for people who don't post deals and discussions ( I would assume a lot of them here) achieving those 2 conditions is tough and unreasonable.

For someone who is only searching for deals only and from time to time likes to thumb up a deal because they think it's a good deal and they saved money , their vote not being counted is ...I don't get it. Even after they gave been around for a while? I can see members participating for a year on Buxr and but their votes not being counted.

Reading the change above I thought that members who don't reach 250 + 30 days , their votes are not counted but finding out that their votes are not earning them points either.....that's ....again I don't get it.

What's the point??? What's the idea? Seems like a Netflix move to me.

More as an arrogant move and not a solution for deterring spammers.

Why am I writing this ? Well because I feel BUXR is a great way of sharing deals but this new change/idea will only bore people and not excite them. Probably some of them voting won't even realize their votes don't count. When they find out , they will just be p***** and move on.

250 points with the restrictions mentioned takes quite a bit of work. Take as an example the chart of the monthly contest. We have a diligent contributor within the top 15 who has posted over 50 deals (and had their votes counted towards others in contest) that still hasn't reached 250 points in the month that is over half over. That particular contributor has also won 8 Deal of the Day awards. Now imagine taking away the points from voting for other deals and you see 250 could be quite a challenge for a new member, especially if they are trying to learn to post deals, much less winning deals. I'm beginning to think modifications may make sense.

Admins there should be some relaxation to your strict rule considering the points given by orangearrows and sandyshore.

sandyshore, 8 deal of the day awards for a new member would translate into 160 points (20 per award) which is already more than half way to the limit.

bemicmom has been a member for only 16 days and already won 12 daily deals. If the new rules were in place since her very first day at Buxr she would have collected 240 points just with her deals (or more if you count points earned with comments), and this is even before the month is over.

I don't think the new rules are unreasonably harsh to new members and it is fairly realistic to become a full member in a month or two if you are willing to work towards it with your deal submissions and comments.

How long would it have taken me to get my voting rights?

Never seen these kind of rules before at any website.

Today is my 30th day of joining Buxr, will my votes be counted from today or tomorrow.
