9 Gadgets That Smartphones Made Obsolete ( Poll )

submitted on April 13, 2011 by orangearrows in "Products / Gadgets"
I don't agree with all the items on the list ( flashlights, GPS units to a certain extent) but am sure with the increase in smartphones usage - the ones on the list are most affected.

Cisco recently announced that it would retire its popular line of Flip video cameras.

Some attribute the Flip's demise to the rise of smartphones' all-in-one gadget functions and HD cameras and video cameras.

Take a look through the slideshow (below) to see some other gadgets that cellphones have rendered obsolete. Do you agree or disagree with the items on this list? Cast your votes, and tell us in the comments if you still use any of these gadgets, as well as if you think there are other devices smartphones are putting out of business.

I am currently shopping for a new phone. The one I got is now hopelessly outdated - I own the very first Android phone model to have been released (G1 by HTC).

I had the G1 too and upgraded in August to the EPIC 4G. I assume you are with T-mobile (G1) - would recommend the HTC Sensation / Pyramid. At 1.2 Ghz Dual core - it's superman.

The ATT Atrix is also a super phone with 1GB ram - dual core and 1920 Mah Battery but ATT restricts it. So you have to root it to load the good stuff and remove ATT crapware.

here is the 50 sec Ad-spot for the HTC sensation

Note : the sensation is the first phone with HTC Sense 3.0 which is very cool.

Calculators should also be on the list. Unless you need one of those crazy scientific calculators... no longer needed.

Yep, I have a couple. They are not very comfortable though with all the touch buttons you have to use. Also, some places/schools don't allow use of smart phone when a calculator is needed, so calculator will live for some time Smile
